    Prediabetes Cals not carbs

I would now like to increase my cals somewhat after two months on very low amounts. How do I do this without increasing my carbs?

    Multivitamins

Should people with diabetes on a low carb diet be taking multivitamin supplements? My daughter in law who is a nurse says I should be concerned about missing out on some of the things that are in bread, folic acid for example.

    Prediabetes Fruit in diet

I seem to have put the cat amongst the pigeons! For some of you most fruit is an absolute no no, whereas others eat them in moderation without any problem. So, for me, the matter is still unresolved. Thanks anyway for replying.

    Prediabetes Fruit in diet

For a long time we have been told to eat five a day of fruit and veg, and I am sure this is good advice. However, I find that fruit elevates BS. What do we do about oranges, apples, melons, pears etc., that I am sure are healthy. I have always enjoyed them but do I now have to give them up...

    Results so far

Just before Christmas I was told I was pre-diabetic on HbA1c of 45 mmol/mol. Since Christmas I have been on low carb diet (average of 50g a day) and testing my BG about every few days. I seem to have steady readings of about 5.5 mmol/L fasting and 6.5 mmol/L 2 hours after a meal. I am not sure...

    BG testers

I bought one from Lidl two weeks ago. The brand name is Sanitas and it was £7.99. No problem with strips or lancets as they are available from Amazon. Seems to work fine though I cannot vouch for its accuracy as I have not checked it against any other readings. Should be ok at spotting trends...

    Rude Health cereal

Somewhere, someone on this forum recommended Rude Health Granola cereal as low on carbs, so I bought some. I am disappointed as I find that it has twice as many as a helping of ordinary porridge. Be careful!

    Living with non-diabetics

Yes I can elaborate a bit. My partner is beginning to complain that she is missing out on the stuff she used to enjoy, and it is making me feel guilty and uncomfortable.

    Living with non-diabetics

Has anyone any advice to offer on living amicably as a diabetic in a non-diabetic household? I feel I am swimming against the tide. A recent problem for me.

Under 20g of carbs a day????

Some people are claiming to achieve under 20g of carbs a day. Is this possible? I have just had an apple and a very small spoon of yoghurt for breakfast and it came to 19.6g!

    Type 2 weight loss plateau

I have a similar experience, losing about four pounds in the first week, and then much more slowly. I started a month ago. I have seen no change for the last three days despite keeping my carbs under 50g and my kcals under 800. Problem may be that I am not greatly overweight - age 76, BMI 26...

What weight loss can I expect?

I am now prediabetic on 45 mmol/mol and have been asked to lose weight. However I am only 12st7 to start with, and after a month I have lost very little despite a strict lchf diet. My target is 10st10. Has anyone a similar experience or advice to offer? Before my evening meal my blood glucose is...

Is there any hope for me?

Thank you Phoenix55 for your second response, which gives me a lot of encouragement. It is early days but I think I am starting to do all the right things. I am not unduly overweight but it would still be good to lose a bit. After all the advice I have received, plus research, I am going to go...

Is there any hope for me?

I have just been told I am at the top end of the pre-diabetic range at the age of 76. My father became Type 2 in his late sixties so I may have a genetic pre-disposition. Is there any hope I can reverse my conditions?

Who is right? Diabetes UK or the NHS?

Diabetes.co.uk pushes low carb, whereas the NHS guidelines are to eat whole grain carbs and cut down on the fat. In fact, the NHS is against low carb dieting. What a morass of conflicting advice. Any help out there. John.

    Pre-diabetic now

I have just been told that I am pre-diabetic, and have spent the last fortnight researching the condition. Diabetes UK pushes the low carb approach but the NHS guidelines are opposed to this, advocating eating wholemeal carbs whilst cutting back on fat. Please can someone advise me as I am...
