    Another Lantus low

@Antje77 Thank you for the reply. My doc wanted to put me on Toujeo but since that's still insulin glargine, I figured I'd stick with Lantus for now as it works well for me (when it doesn't have side-effects, that is). Really? Is that true even for fast-acting insulins like Humalog or Novolog...

    Another Lantus low

Hi everyone, I just need to get this off my chest. A few days ago, I injected Lantus (12 units) and must've hit a vein or something, because after 20 minutes I started feeling very dizzy, measured my blood sugar and was at 1.2 mmol/l, which is the lowest reading I've ever seen. I live alone for...

How many of you use a diabetes management app?

Thanks @db89 and @Tipetoo , I'll check those out as well. Still haven't decided on the best one.

How many of you use a diabetes management app?

Thank you @Jaylee, I'll definitely check it out. A cross-device app would be perfect as I sometimes measure my blood sugar while on my computer, sometimes while using my phone and so on, so having multiple devices synced would be the best option for me.

How many of you use a diabetes management app?

Thanks for the replies, I'll have a look at those. @Jaylee The Diaconnect app especially sounds interesting as it is synchronised cross-device. Is that the main reason you stuck with that one in particular?

How many of you use a diabetes management app?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a diabetes management app to make recording my BGs and insulin doses a bit easier. Which one do you use and/or would recommend and why? Thank you!

Modern Diabetes Treatment in an Ancient System

Personally, I think (hope) that it's going to get better in a couple of years. Recently I listened to Joe Rogan's podcast where he interviewed Dominic D'Agostino, one of leading proponents of the keto diet. He's seen evidence that low carbing not only helps cognitively (you're not as tired after...

    low carb diet in hospital

After reading this thread, I'm already dreading any future hospital stays. It's funny how there's 370 million diabetics in the world, roughly 5% of the world's population, and yet I sometimes feel like this world is absolutely unprepared for our presence. The last time I was in hospital was...

    T1D and immigration

@AndBreathe thank you for the suggestion. As I've said, I'm not planning on migrating any time soon so I just wanted to know if maybe some other members had experience with this. Don't worry, I wouldn't emigrate without first checking with the authorities and getting as much information as possible.

    T1D and immigration

@catapillar Thanks for the clarification. @Tipetoo You're right, I must have had a brain fart or something when writing my original post. I can see why they would try to deter people with diseases that require expensive medical care.

    T1D and immigration

Thanks, I had no idea. Well I think with the dismantling of Obamacare that Trump is planning the US is in for some interesting times.

    T1D and immigration

Thanks for the replies. @bulkbiker I'm from Slovakia and live there and since my country is part of the European Union I'm also a citizen of the EU. I know that makes me eligible to be treated the same in the UK as a UK citizen, I just wanted to know if there are any additional caveats...

    T1D and immigration

Hi everyone. I have a couple of questions about diabetes and immigration. I don't plan on immigrating in the next few years but I've been toying with the idea of moving to a different country for quite some time now. Needless to say, being diagnosed with diabetes complicated things, so I'd like...

Did I accidentally inject Lantus into a vein

@noblehead yeah the thing is that after being diagnosed with diabetes I developed anxiety and so being afraid of my basal insuling giving me hypos isn't the best thing for me (as it is for no one else I would say). I'll mention it to my doc and see what she thinks. I know the possibility of...

Did I accidentally inject Lantus into a vein

hypoing for 4 hours sounds really eh... fun. It's good to see that you can laugh about it:) I'll be sure to mention this to my doctor and hopefully she'll give me advice on how to deal with it

Did I accidentally inject Lantus into a vein

Hi @therower . Not saying it's impossible for me to make such a mistake but this time it wasn't it. I'm sure because the pens I use for Lantus and Humalog are visually very different and I store them in different places. I'm 100% sure I injected Lantus. Injecting bolus insulin instead of basal...

Did I accidentally inject Lantus into a vein

@diamondnostril thank you for the links. I'm relieved to see I'm not the only one experiencing this. I plan on getting in touch with my doctor and mentioning this during my next visit. I'm going to have to be more careful in the meantime. On a side note - is there a way to tell if there's...

Did I accidentally inject Lantus into a vein

Hi everyone. So yesterday a weird thing happened. I measured my BG before going to bed (6.2 mmol), injected myself with 9 units of lantus, had a little snack (a slice of bread) and wanted to go to bed. However, rougly 30 minutes later I felt that something was wrong and when I measured my BG it...

Main meals and snacks - timing

@azure @Kristin251 Thank you for your advice, I'll try and experiment a bit with the amount of carbs I eat and how much insulin I use. Unfortunately I don't have a half-unit pen yet but I'll mention this to my doctor to see if she'd recommend it. Also, azure, I've heard of the book you...

Main meals and snacks - timing

@azure I adjust depending on what I'm going to eat since I react very differently to rice and similar amounts of potatoes for example. I also should mention that my postprandial BG is often below 6. Am I controlling my diabetes too tightly? From what I read my postprandial BG should be below 8...
