Hi all I am a type 1 an had for 20yrs I would love to get a job in nutrition

I’m a secondary school food teacher and know that most jobs in nutrition would require college/university qualifications. There is a ncfe level 2 certificate in understanding nutrition and health (equivalent to a GCSE) you can do. Search it online. Maybe ring your diabetes team to ask them if...

I’m on a pump but thinking about going back to injections

Hello. My son went onto the pump in June and he’s had some awful highs. So much so that he’s on 75% attendance at school. But we are persevering. It seems like we are constantly making adjustments to both basal and bolus. We also changed cannula which has so far helped. I’ve been re-reading...

    item 1.Things that annoy me

Sugar is a functional ingredient in baking and it is difficult to create the texture and appearance of baked goods by using sugar substitutes. You can however successfully reduce the % of sugar in some baked goods by around 10-20%. It’s a bit trial and error. Everything in moderation [emoji4]

Frustrations with freestyle libre - help me keep using it

Try cavilon spray by 3m. My son is now allergic to his cannula adhesive so we use it for that. But it’s approved by Abbott’s for the libre.

Prediabetes Is there a recommended blood test app?

My son and I use mySugr. It’s brilliant because he enters readings on his phone at school and I can see what they are on my phone.

Anyone else having trouble with leaky pump sites?

Not sure if you're doing this, but tubing should be changed with every insulin vial. We were originally told change tubing day 6, and insulin and cannula days 3&6, but met the rep last week as was told differently. Also use the multi wave for any bolus greater than 5 as the Teflon cannula can't...

Sounds like you got the right advice from the start. I'm on the ball and always make notes. Not sure why we weren't told all of this from the start.

    Accu chek insight - things I didn't know [emoji51]

Had a meeting yesterday with Roche rep to look at Insight Tender cannulas. Found out some other important things that I thought other user should know if you don't already - bare in kind we're quite new to the pump 1. Tubing should be changed every time insulin is changed, and not every 6 days...
