    Wake up call...

Hope you’re feeling better now. I’ve been feeling pretty bad hence my delay in replying. Feeling better now but still at 22 fasting rate. I test twice a day which is usually enough to monitor things.... I will take your advice and call my diabetic nurse tomorrow

    Wake up call...

I have tested numerous times since I posted - still around 22 fasting rate and stable (but obviously way too high). I’m low carb (around 30g per day usually) and have cut them even further but no difference. Guess it’s a trip to my diabetic nurse then...

    Wake up call...

I was never above 7 before the virus, usually around 4.5 - 5.5. Since the virus I’m now at around 22 fasting. I’m low carb and have dropped them even lower but it isn’t coming down at all...

    Wake up call...

I’m just recovering from a nasty virus (4 weeks with it) and have not been monitoring my blood glucose as much as I should. I am a diet controlled T2 and have around 30g carbs a day. I’ve been feeling pretty rough and put it all down to the virus, but did a reading this evening and I am...

Type 2 How do I say no to statins

Hi. My cholesterol is ok for a non diabetic but my DN explained that they like it lower for diabetics to help protect the kidneys. I also have Atherosclerosis - diabetes can cause the deposits to break up and statins help stabilise them. I also didn’t want to take statins and figured that if I...

    Why oh why

I had exactly the same problem. Porridge caused a serious spike every time I tried it with milk. I am working on lowering my cholesterol at the moment and was told soya products can help.... I tried porridge made with soya milk and there was hardly a shift in my bg - went from 5.9 to 6.1 after...

    How do yo cope

I think I’d be looking for new friends if mine behaved like that towards me!

Type 2 Practice nurse said not to test

I agree with you 100% Mike! I was put on metformin and had terrible side effects. The DN was going to put me straight on to insulin injections but I decided to try a low carb diet with exercise first (carefully avoiding the DN for a few weeks while I got to work on the lifestyle changes!). I was...

    A learning curve...

Since diagnosis I have listened to the advice of my DN and read lots of advice and information from the fabulous diabetic community on this forum. I tried metformin including SR (gross side effects for me so a no go). The DN was about to put me on insulin injections but I decided to try and find...

    Bruises...

Hi Over the past few days my legs (especially my knees) have suddenly acquired lots of small bruises. I haven't injured myself and have no idea why both knees and shins are covered in bruises about the size of a 5p coin. Has anyone else had this? My diabetes is under control and the only meds I...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

Snap! After weeks of a steady 6.0 this afternoon it was 8.8.... hadn't eaten since last night so guess that's why

Do antiseptic wipes make a difference?

Thanks. I do think it would be useful to have some in case I need to test and there is no wash facility.

Do antiseptic wipes make a difference?

As I said in my post I don't normally use them but I am having a bathroom refit which means I have no water.

Do antiseptic wipes make a difference?

I have retested and it is down to 7. I did use an Accu-Chek wipe which I thought would be ok... usually I just wash my hands. I seem to be having an issue with my sugar spiking in the night... presumably due to raised cortisol. I'm seeing my dn tomorrow so I'll mention it to get.

Do antiseptic wipes make a difference?

I am trying different things to find out why my levels are going up and down faster than a *****'s drawers! Controlled all day, by morning my level is way too high. I noticed if I ate a light snack late evening it seemed to be a lower reading in the morning (fasting). All day it then stabilises...

    After months of control....

I was diagnosed four months ago, tried Metformin and couldn't tolerate it (not even the SR). The threat of insulin injections is hanging over me but at the moment I am controlling my T2 with a low carb diet and exercise and it has been well controlled for three months (at around 6.7). However...

Diabetic care...... is it another postcode lottery?

Thank you for your brilliant replies! Lots of really useful information for me to take on board, and lots of encouragement too. I am going into town tomorrow so I shall visit my lovely helpful pharmacist and get a meter. I do feel as though I am flying blind, so it makes good sense to check...

Diabetic care...... is it another postcode lottery?

I was diagnosed with type 2 after a finger prick test at the surgery was 22.6 and a follow up HBA1C was 80. I still haven't had the figures explained to me at all, and so far my 'care' has been Metformin (bad reaction now to both regular and slow release), a lecture from a nurse (with an order...

    Metformin side effects?

I take one metformin at breakfast and feel fine. At lunchtime I don't take one and feel awful around an hour after eating, I feel dizzy and sick. Is this a side effect from the metformin, or is this being caused by a spike after eating? I am keeping to a low carb diet but feel dreadful after...
