When do you take your basal (long acting) Insulin?

I also split my basal. 6 units am and 10 units pm. After lots of experimenting with dosage, I've found this works best for me, helping keep me controlled all day. As above, I had hypos in the night when taking full dose in one injection.

    Discrimination?

Thanks for your replies. I'm glad I'm not alone in finding this unacceptable. I've never had so much as a hypo at work and am very well controlled so her comments are completely unfounded. I am particularly upset as I have never once used my diabetes as an excuse for anything. I don't feel it...

    Discrimination?

Hi I just wanted to hear your opinions and experiences about a situation I experienced recently. I am a senior teacher in a prinary school. A trip was planned by two junior members of staff and a senior leader was required to accompany them and the children. When I asked to be considered...

    Does it explain?

Looking back, ive had a few odd health probs that I now think are diabetes related. I had a few episodes of low blood sugar, aches and pains and the pronounced abdo pain. It's like my body was trying to get me to notice something was up!

    Does it explain?

For about six to eight mOnths prior to diagnosis of type 1, I suffered from a recurring abdominal pain, lower left, stabbing type of pain. Doc said it could be bowel related but never really got anywhere with it. Now, 6 months post diagnosis, the pain had gone! Coincidence, or was pain related...

Drinking advice for Type 1 Newbie

Hi I'm a type 1 on insulin. I still enjoy a night out and a few drinks! I always have a carby meal before starting drinking. I then have a few vodka and diet cokes or a few glasses of wine. Before bed I have a slice of toast with no insulin. The next day my levels are a little low so I...

    can someone explain?

I've been told that low intensity exercise causes bs to fall and high intensity causes a rise. Liver dump I think?!

    Microalbumin

Hi I hope this is in the right place. I was diagnosed in November, Type 1. Since then I've worked hard to get good control, as I hope to be able to start a family soon. At my first three mOnth check, my microalbumin was high. I had another test and had a letter to say that the second...

    24 and newly diagnosed

Hi I was diagnosed t1 recently too. I'm 27. I would just like to reassure you, you do start to get your head around everything! I'm now three months down the line and getting there with the emotional side of it all! What meds are you on? Initially, I was prescribed novomix30 but found it...

    Free USB meter

Yep it was the bd needle box. I don't pay for strips, just use what I'm prescribed. I'll send off for the meter and free strips to just use as a spare! I guess there's a lot to be made from diabetic healthcare!

    Free USB meter

Picked up my prescription today and on the box of needles was a little leaflet saying I could have a free USB bg meter just by posting my details to a free post address. New to all this, I wonder what the catch is? Is it to do with test strips? I use an optium exceed meter as this was the...

Type 1 - Slimming World or Weight Watchers

I know its supposed to be common sense, eat less exercise more etc, some people need a plan or a diet structure to follow. If that is what you need, I think that, having done both diets, slimming world is the better of the two. It encourages cooking from scratch and choosing healthy, filling...

    Searching for advice

I am recently diagnose type 1 (november 2011) at 27 years old. I know what your girlfriend is going through. If she's like me immediately after diagnosis, she won't be able to see life beyond the diabetes. Initially, all I thought was the bad stuff, the injections, the complications and I...

How do you spot a hypo

I had a false hypo on the first night in hospital after diagnosis after dropping within a few hours from 40 to 4.5 mmol. The symptoms were the same if not worse than subsequent 'real' hypos. I get shaky, sweaty and anxious. Its horrible! For me, lucozade or dextrose tabs do the trick, then a...

On diagnosis it was 12% and consultant says 7 or less to be safe for pregnancy. After 8 weeks on novomix I switched just after...

    Hospital error?

Thank you everyone for replies. I think I'm just having a bit of a tough time at the moment. It's only now the shock of both mc and diagnosis is easing that I'm realising all of the implications. I guess I want to 'blame' somebody! I'm so glad I found this forum though I've spent a stupid...

    Hospital error?

I was at a preconception appointment when this arose. Seems I was showing symptoms of type 1 at the time of mc and it was dismissed as gd, only to lead to things escalating and hospitalisation two months later.

    Hospital error?

Hi I'm a new poster and not sure if this is in the right place, I just want a bit of a vent and to hear your opinions. In September I went to a and e suffering an early miscarriage (8 weeks gestation) and was referred to early pregnancy unit (epu). Miscarriage was explained way as 'one of...
