    Ozempic thoughts

Good Morning All, I haven't been on the forum for several years and thought I had correctly asked a question yesterday but I think my post disappeared !! Appologies if this comes up twice. Asking on behalf of Hubby who was diagnosed T2 around 5 years ago. Initially his HbA1C was in the high...

    In remission-at last !

Afternoon everyone, Not popped onto the forum in months as life has been really busy but just wanted to let you know that my Hubby (the one of us with T2) now has an HbA1c of 42mmol and seems to have the condition well under control.:) Diagnosed in June 2017 with an HbA1c of 98mmol (around 12...

    A place to vent

hi @jmff and welcome to the forum. I joined the forum last summer when Hubby was diagnosed T2 and I have found this to be a very supportive place. Being the supporting partner can be very hard and coming on here and reading the threads and answers has saved my sanity on more than one occasion ...

    Peripheral Neuropathy

I believe if you take R-ALA for nerve pain then it needs to be quite a high dose- 600-800mg daily to be effective. Hubby took this for a while last autumn and then we ran out (!) Have just ordered some more as he wants to try it again. I think also that if it's going to work, it doesn't happen...

    Type 2 is back

there are also a number of herbal supplements which are used by T2s to help lower BG. We are all individuals and not everything works for everyone. It's a case of trying and testing to see what would be beneficial to you.

    New and confused

@Guzzler - I never knew that fructose could affect the liver in the same way as alcohol-that's really interesting. One of the doctors that Hubby saw always made a point about asking him about his alcohol consumption (and this was at a point when he had given up entirely) However before being...

    Should I stop metformin?

Hi @Thomas 2 and congratulations on lowering your HbA1c- well done ! If you manage another HbA1c that is in the non-diabetic ranges then (and this is my personal opinion) I would ask the doctor whether you could discontinue with the drug. I imagine the reason that the doctor suggested...

    Infection and bloods raised

Yep infections (of any kind) will affect blood sugar so I would imagine that your immune system is a bit depressed judging from what you have said. I also think that hormones affect BG as well. Hubby (obvs not menopausal !) finds that his BG rises when he is particularly stressed. Cortisol is...

    Newly diagnosed as diabetic patient

hi @bobjan - some Type 2 Diabetic people do take insulin-there is a separate forum on here which discusses all issues relating to Type 2 treated with insulin. I believe there are separate tests which are done ( as well as the HbA1C ) to determine whether you need to take insulin or just tablets...

Congratulations you are no longer diabetic .. really?

I think @Lemonie what you Doctor probably meant is that you are 'very well controlled/no longer at the point where a diabetic diagnosis would be given. (Congratulations btw-you've done really, really well !) I don't think you can ever become undiabetic for the reasons you gave- if you reverted...

Newby retired firefighter requires rescue programme

Hi @johnjo 2 and welcome to the forum-sounds like you have made a great start already. You will find that the Low Carb way of eating has a real impact on your blood sugar and weight loss. Hubby was diagnosed T2 last June and didn't want to take meds so adopted this way of eating (as did I) He...

Hi all, new to this diabetes club

hi @Allanmax and welcome to the forum, I am sure that you will find it an invaluable source of support and advice. I would strongly advise that you buy yourself a blood glucose testing monitor so that you can test yourself before and after eating to see how different foods affect you. Lots on...

Have you been told this ?

@Bluetit1802 yes the same nurse with the dodgy scales (Hubby came home and weighed himself again when he got home and reckoned that her scales needed re-calibrating by at least 9 pounds !) He said that she was also squinting at the screen and had forgotten her reading glasses !

Have you been told this ?

hi @ringi - I knew there was some discrepancy between finger prick testing and A1c but didn't appreciate that the A1c could be out by that much ! When you have blood taken for an A1c do they take for two tests at the same time or just one ? I thought it was just the one ?
