@becca59 I didn't realise that even BG monitor can be out by that much! Would this be the case even for finger prick tests? OK makes me feel a little better about the Libre 2 then :D it would be great if they could add a calibration feature though!
That's disappointing. I'm currently using the Libre and they forced me to move to Libre 2 since they stopped supporting the Libre 1 (even though I just want monitoring, not alarms). I found the Libre 1 to be pretty reliable and once baselined, quite accurate. My experience with Libre 2 has been...
I only mentioned them because the abstract that you referred to did:
"The new study suggests that in mice, as in people, genetic susceptibility to type 2 diabetes and other metabolic problems may only become apparent when on an unhealthy diet, particularly one that leads to obesity."
My point...
This presumes that we even understand what a "healthy" diet is! Low fat / high carb diets, as highlighted in recent studies and literature (as well as the media), also seem to lead to heart disease and obesity whereas high fat does not necessarily? So who to believe?
It would certainly be interesting to further research it. I had assumed that the responsible metabolic pathway(s) was entirely within the abdominal glands
"We think that diabetes represents a dysfunction of neural circuits within the brain. What FGF1 is doing is acting upon these circuits to ameliorate the dysfunction."

This is my first summer on insulin, and while I know I need to keep unopened vials in the fridge, what do I do about opened ones e.g. the one in my pen!
I'm nervous about keeping my pen in the fridge due to ensuring it is properly mixed and also that the instructions say that once at room temp...
I'm not T1 but got the Libre to see what my overnight sugars are like since I recently went on insulin. A bit frivolous I suppose but I'm really keen on getting good control since I've been in the diabetes wilderness for a while! :)
@CarbsRok Hi can you please explain this more fully? I've just started using a Libre. So do you put Skin Tac on the sensor adhesive itself? Or do you apply as per instructions and then cover with Skin Tac and the Tegaderm over the entire unit?
Many thanks! :)
I am surprised that no-one, including your pharmacist, has ever asked to see your certificate or put the certificate number on the prescription. I was told on the first day I got a prescription for diabetes meds (I used to have a private GP and paid for all my own meds, because I didn't...
I stopped using the spring loader and do it with a lancet by hand. Now I know exactly how deep to go and I have much less bruising and pain. I think maybe because there isn't that SHOCK :) it feels more like my injection and I agree the injection is much easier!
I went back to Tesco's (with a very helpful pharmacist) and he tried strips from a different batch number (using his own blood! :) ). Looks like a mechanical issue with the strip for that batch. New batch worked fine and he replaced the three defective packs of strips. All good!
I just got a new batch of Freestyle Lite test strips this morning and have tried 4 or 5 of the strips in the container and none of them seem to detect the presence of my blood  (I made sure there was plenty!)
I'm going to try on another batch, but is this likely to be a problem with this...
Thanks for the replies. I seemed to need to reach a "critical mass" of insulin before my body started to respond, and then it fell quite quickly. It would have been nice if the nurse had told me that wildly fluctuating BG levels might happen! It certainly seemed counter-intuitive that the more...
Average BG levels are INCREASING as I increase my insulin. Very frustrating and not the way this script was supposed to play out. Any type-2s out there with any advice?
Why would my average BG be increasing as I add more insulin to my daily dose as instructed by my diabetes nurse?
