Fatty liver, diabetes, PCOS & high blood pressure

I’ve had diabetes for 20 years (I’m mid 40s) and PCOS since my teens. I lost a lot of weight doing LCHF about 10 years ago (this never improved my diabetes though), but put weight back on during pregnancies and now even on the Fast 800 (low carb, low calories) doesn’t make the slightest...

    Novo fine needle availability

Just been to Boots to collect my prescription and they’ve told me that they can’t get hold of novofine 6mm needles and that I need to ask my GP to prescribe a different type. Has anyone else been told this? Is there an alternative that’s as good? Thanks

    Supplements

Has anyone tried soy supplements? I’ve been reading a few studies which found insulin sensitivity was increased in women after increasing soy intake.

    High protein levels & cholesterol

I’ve phoned and been told that the results just show total cholesterol, no further breakdown, which is annoying. GP didn’t try to prescribe a statin, although I’ve told them before that I won’t take statins.

    High protein levels & cholesterol

The GP said cholesterol should be under 4 in people with diabetes. I don’t know the breakdown but will find out. I think the protein in urine was the main reason for blood pressure tablets.

    High protein levels & cholesterol

I was told that protein in urine meant I needed a drug to protect my kidneys. It might be called ramipril (or something similar -sounding)

    High protein levels & cholesterol

Blood pressure and heart rate always up at hospital/GP so definitely have white coat syndrome!

    High protein levels & cholesterol

Latest blood test shows raised cholesterol (5.6) & also found higher level of protein in urine. GP wants to put me on a blood pressure tablet. Anyone had similar results? Did you find meds helped? Heard so many horror stories about more and more meds I want to think things through before I...

    Perimenopause

I am in the exact same position as the OP & it’s such a relief to hear that I’m not alone. I have a GP appointment soon so I’ll ask for HRT in the hope that helps.

Diabetes & depression - what has worked best for you?

I’m heading to my GP this week as I’m experiencing symptoms of depression/anxiety and have been for a while. I’ve read that some antidepressants can cause weight gain and raised blood sugar - obviously I want to avoid this if possible! Des anyone have experience of trying to balance the two or...

    Alternatives to forxiga

Hi there - thanks & sorry for the delay in response - Christmas etc... So I’m told I’m a type 1/2 hybrid. Originally diagnosed as t2 but starting hba1c of 12. Type 2 meds not ever very effective on me. Frequently asked if I was sure I wasn’t t1 but antibodies were never detected (I’m now...

    Alternatives to forxiga

And now bizarrely they’ve gone back up to double figures today. I’ve changed my pump set and libre and levels have gone from below 7 consistently to between 11-21. I give up!

    Alternatives to forxiga

I have done a course but a while ago. I’m hoping my insulin settings will go down at my next appointment but it still doesn’t explain why coming off forxiga has improved things dramatically.

    Alternatives to forxiga

Because my levels were awful - double figures the majority of the time. And not decreasing with additional insulin (& metformin). I can’t explain it.

    Alternatives to forxiga

Just a quick update. I stopped forxiga about 2 weeks ago. After a couple of bad days my blood sugar has been ok - better than when taking it! Not sure what to put it down to - I was waking up 3-4 times a night to either pee or have a drink, so maybe I’m more rested. But otherwise I have no...

    Medtronic 640g - 4 failed pumps

Hi - I have the same pump and have had a couple of complete battery failures which have left me panicking. At what point should I contact Medtronic in case there’s a problem with my pump? Or is it not unusual to have these battery failures?

Support thread for those of us who dont lose weight

@alison. It means that he thinks I was misdiagnosed as type 2 (I had no antibodies, but apparently some t1 don’t have them, depending on when they were tested etc) judging from my history and how it’s played out over the years - a number of drs have previously asked me “are you sure you’re not...

Support thread for those of us who dont lose weight

It’s so good to find this thread. I was diagnosed 16 years ago. They thought I had t2, put me on metformin straight away (hba1c of 12+), then actos/amaryl but I never really got things under control until I switched to insulin when pregnant. Since then they’ve (recently) decided that I have a...

    Alternatives to forxiga

Thanks all - I’ve just had a look at the different options (admittedly alone not different combinations) and feel thoroughly deflated. I’m already on insulin so don’t need anything that will help me produce more (because they don’t work, hence me taking insulin), I can’t face another drug with...
