does having a period cause hypo

Hi there, I'm on a pump and for approx five days on period I use 5.8 units as my background . any other time I'm on 8 units. My ratios change too from 1:15 to 1:21 for those five days so for me it had a big effect. I think it varies a lot for every individual and every month may be different...

Double Digits! Good or Evil!? >;)

I went onto a pump in October last year and whilst getting it my nurse advised against doing more then 6 units in one go and instead to spread any over 6 over at least 15 minutes she said it was due to sensitivity and may lead to a hypo. I've stuck to her advice and things seem fine this way. I...

Does diabetes make you a better person?

I think it's made me realise just how everything you do has a consequence and there are some things you can control and that you can't. Made me think a lot about the things I can control and as long as I'm doing my best with those that's all I can do. May have realised this without diabetes but...

    Airport Security & Medication

I've been asked once in a stop over in Hong Kong on my way to New Zealand, I had to get out and count or all of my kit... Including opening unopened boxes of needles and counting then all!!! I was going abroad for a year and had 6 months worth of stuff so it did look a bit excessive. Had to show...

    Low blood sugars before bed

Maybe you need to change your ratio to something like 1:12 for your evening meal and see if that does anything, i have totally different ratios for every meal. Might help. Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    Hypos/fits

Oops didn't mean to send that yet. My boyfriend would somehow manage to feel me gel or jam without getting beaten up or the ambulance would be called. Haven't had one in years and hope it stays that way. Not much fun!! Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Is it me or my diabetes?

This reminds me of when I was younger (diagnosed type one at 13) , sometimes I got angry/stroppy normal teenage things, I used to get so annoyed then when people said maybe you should check your sugars. I felt like I wasn't entitled to being cross. This made me question , still does, if my...

Afraid of Hypos make for high levels

So i've worked abroad as a ski instructor, a greenskeeper then the joyful job as a housekeeper and through these jobs I have a habit of getting really worried about having a hypo that I always make my sugars high. This mainly happened working as an instructor when i'd get there in the morning...

Keeping Diabetes Kit Warm whilst skiing

Hi Emma, did you work out a way to keep your insulin and tester warm on your trip? I'm a ski instructor and that's the most annoying thing about diabetes and the cold. If my blood tester accepted blood it would frequently give massively wrong readings (one finger 2.2 the next finger along 18!)...
