Are others having their regular review cancelled?

My annual checkups for diabetes, retinopathy and prosthesis surveillance were all cancelled in 2020. This year I was contacted for all including my vascular problems in my remaining leg but not my prosthesis maintenance which remains suspended. My vascular problems, having hit rock bottom have...

    Appointments during Covid-19

I was called in for a blood sample which was taken in the car in a council car park and handed a container for a urine sample. The consultation with the diabetes nurse did not materialise and in a text message will take place "in the future". I also got shingles and pneumococcal vaccinations in...

Annual blood test and diabetes checks still happening?

My regular checks are all suspended indefinitely. In addition to no annual diabetes review or retina checks, no district nurse 6 monthly equipment check, no amputation rehab, no bypass surgery surveillance. All have written nice letters.

    Libre A1c Prediction

I only get an A1c result once a year from my GP and both times so far has been the same as the Libre prediction. As always seems to be the case with diabetes, your experience will vary.

    Your primary care team T2D

I was diagnosed T2 on an emergency admission to my local hospital. I have had an elective transfemoral amputation of my left leg due to osteomyelitis in tibia and femur near the knee and the stump became badly infected from no obvious source. The staff nurse on the ward I was admitted to...

Theresa May Misleading People Regarding Glucose Monitor

As a type 2 with a diagnosis in my hospital discharge letter of “do not test” the only thing my GP makes available to me is a once a year HbA1c test. Since I want to get my HbA1c down I am self funding a meter and after my experience in hospital of constant finger pricks I chose the Libre but...

Do You Weigh Yourself Everyday Or Weekly?

I bought a smart scale only to discover that you need two feet to make them work and I only have one. At that point I lost interest and just rely on having the waistband on my trousers as a check on my girth. When asked for my weight I just reply 80kilos as I was 75kilos the last time I was weighed.

    First diabetes review

I’ve been using a phone to collect the readings and send them to LibreWatch. They produce really nice graphs in a web browser or as a pdf to see how things change over time. I’m really glad I ignored advice and kept monitoring my BS levels. What makes me nervous are the physical things I can’t...

    First diabetes review

I was diagnosed T2D in January while in hospital for an unrelated problem and left more or less on my own to deal with diet etc apart from a short conversation with their DN on the day of my discharge who said I had achieved good dietary control of my blood sugars so would not need to test in...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I was first diagnosed type 2 in January this year while in Warwick Hospital for something unrelated. I was tested 6 times a day in the hospital and put on Metformin. When I was discharged after 3 weeks I was told by the diabetes nurse no need to test. I just got my first appointment letter...

    New type 2 member

Thanks. It explains a lot. I might have to shift the times I take the gabapentin so I can reliably test foods.

    New type 2 member

Thanks Ross. At least they saw a message I left on their website and added Metformin to my repeat prescriptions. I haven't been too diligent at recording everything as I tend to extemporise whilst cooking. I always check the carb content though and keep the total low. I often get BS highs in...

    New type 2 member

I have an above knee amputation of my left leg and had been walking with a peg leg for about 6 months when I got a pain in my stump just around Christmas 2017. I assumed initially it was due to walking and working in the garden so eased off and waited for its to get better. It didn't and when my...
