    Steak & Kidney Pudding

I finally managed to get some beef suet and spend this morning hard at work in the kitchen. As I had been forewarned the lack of a "binding" agent in almond flour proved troublesome. I used three egg whites but it was still impossible to roll the dough. I finished up flattening it in my hand for...

Meat And Insulin Production/diabetes And Also Inflammation

I followed the Blood Sugar Diet, sticking to 800 Calories a day and found that I finished up being on a low carb diet effectively. I didn't specifically count carbs but it became clear I was taking between 20 and 50g per day.

Type 2 Holiday In Usa - Advice Please

I didn't have a problem in Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Detroit, and New York earlier this year. I tend to order meat with green veggies as a substitute for the inevitable french fries. Breakfasts are pretty good at hotels with egg and bacon being my go to. Funnily enough I finished up having egg...

Hba1c Number 3....but What Is All This Ferritin Malarkey

There are a couple of issues that Google flags up that concern me. Alcohol consumption may play a part in increased ferritin levels and ferritin levels are also associated with the development of T2 diabetes. Given the 300 level as max high on the paperwork from the GP I am surprised that it was...

    Low Carb On A Budget?

Agree on the meat and veggies front, but do have some sympathy when it comes to almond flour, coconut flour and seeds and nuts. The latter can be expensive. I love celeriac, fresh veggies, avocado and spinach, particularly with eggs and canned tuna so there are some good options out there.

Hba1c Number 3....but What Is All This Ferritin Malarkey

I had my second HbA1c since diagnosis - my third in total - this week, and have dropped to 38. (90 originally in Oct '17 and then 40 in January '18) No meds just LCHF diet. My total cholesterol has risen to 6.0 but my ratios appear very good, pretty happy with triglycerides at 0.9. The number...

    Steak & Kidney Pudding

Sadly it has been one big failure. I can't find a butcher with Beef Suet. (I Am in Australia as an aside) I'll keep trying but time is not on my side as I begin extensive travel within a fortnight. Interestingly the butchers are stating that October is the month that they tend to stock...

Fasting Glucose Higher Than You Expect On A Low Carb Or Ketogenic Diet?

I have been mulling over this for a day or so and after another day of 6's in the morning lowering to low 5's in the evening after dinner, I wonder what impact a high carb meal would have for someone in a "adaptive glucose sparing" state*. Can the pancreas and body react to manage glucose or...

Fasting Glucose Higher Than You Expect On A Low Carb Or Ketogenic Diet?

A very interesting read. I have been pursuing a LCHF diet for a couple of months or more and have got to the stage where my BG readings throughout the day have been going in "reverse" almost. I wake up to a 6 to 6.5, rise a bit further as the morning progresses and then start to fall after...

Why Eat Carbs As A Type 2 Diabetic?

It is all so complicated. I dislike the term diabetes as a cover all name for what is really the symptom of high blood glucose I was overweight when diagnosed, having lived a life of carbohydrate gluttony, so I really do blame myself. I snacked between meals, downed 1.25 litre bottle of pure...

    Steak & Kidney Pudding

Now I love Steak & Kidney pudding, not pie, but pudding, proper suet pudding. So this week I am going to attempt Mrs Beeton's original recipe....but with Almond flour replacing regular flour. I have beef suet coming from the local butcher, because the supermarket suet has way too much flour in...

    Long Haul Flight

I was diagnosed back in October 2017 and currently manage by blood glucose by diet - lo carb/healthy fats. I fly a fair bit of long haul and try to avoid airplane food where I can. I take nuts (almonds, walnuts and brazils) as snacks and make sure I eat a decent lo carb meal before departure. I...

    Footsteps In The Sand

I have three pairs of Vibrams, and whilst it took a week or so to get used to them I am pretty happy with them. The driver was travel, I don't check luggage and trainers take up too much space in my carry on. Initially I found it tricky getting them on - lining up the toes - but after a few days...

    Going It Alone

I suspect that for every poster here there are ten or more people who don't research, or don't want to stick to, what initially looks like, a "scary" lifestyle change. When I had a chat to my GP about not offering LCHF as a lifestyle change to patients newly diagnosed with T2, he was very clear...

    In-flight Meals!

...and after a quick sojourn to Oslo I am back in the lounge for a pre flight dinner - a remarkably low carb Salmon with rock Samphire and broccoli with a little tomato. Absolutely ideal for me. I am incredibly lucky to have access to the lounge but I find it frustrating that a decent low carb...

    Hello And Advice

I think it is all relative...........the berries and full fat yoghurt, are respectively, roughly, 12g and 6g of carbs per 100g......compared to, for example, Weetabix at approx 69g per 100. The problem with Type 2 for me is the number of variables and what works for one person may not for...
