    Blood sugar monitoring

I also have the same problem. One GP in my practice won't prescribe strips, but another one has prescribed just one box, not on repeat prescription, just a one off. I totally agree with you, how can you manage your own health without the equipment to do so. I still buy my strips and lancets off...

Dr has removed my test strips and lancets from pre

Dear Erroneous, Some of us (ME) are not lucky enough to be referred to the hospital. I will ONLY see the nurse at my GP surgery each 6 months for a blood test and once a year for medical. They call that monitoring???? I certainly don't. Nanna b NannaB

Apparently type 1 get them free, but type 2 do not automatically get them on prescription, in fact it would appear that a lot of GP's (especially my surgery) do not supply strips. I have been purchasing them on the internet cheaper than I can buy them from Chemists, but one box on prescription...

    Diabetes and animals

I have diabetes type 2 but I also have malignant melanoma (skin cancer of the worst kind). Prior to my original diagnosis in 2001 I had a normal looking mole on my calf which my dog was constantly smelling as she walked past, stopping for ages to smell it. She was right, it was cancer. I saw a...

Dr has removed my test strips and lancets from pre

I am newly diagnosed and have had to fight to get one box of strips from my GP!!!! Not on repeat prescription, so just a one off. I have had some very useful information regarding this, so if you go to nannab postings you might find them useful. (It worked for me), although not without...

So sorry for using abreviations - PCT means Primary Care Trust, your very local i.e. town, Health Trust (the ones that hold the purse strings for your area) and MP means Member of Parliament. Hope that is helpful. Nannab. NannaB

    Yet Another Newby Rambling

Just a short update. I saw the GP surgery nurse yesterday. She first of all showed me the "guidelines" which I said weren't national guidelines but local PCT guidelines. I did calmly state my case, and she realised that I had taken the time to look into diabetes. She then gave me a leaflet, on...

    Metformin and alcohol

I am on Metformin 500 mg once a day, and diet. I was talking to an acquaintance at a Tesco Pharmacy yesterday, and we discussed alcohol and Metformin. On my advice note inside pack of tablets it states not to take alcohol if taking Metformin and I have done exactly that, abstained. However...

    Amount of Fruit

I expect this is a rather stupid question, but can anyone give me an idea on the amount of fruit they eat daily. I love my fresh fruit and up until I was diagnosed with type 2 ate 5 pieces a day. I now only have the occasional piece of fruit if I am very peckish between meals and occasionally...

    yogurt

I also make my own yoghurt, sugar free and tastes great. EasiYo, very easy, just sit container in boiling water and hey presto!! Lots of different flavours, and the good thing for me is that it lasts up to two weeks in the refrigerator. I found the carb. info from Bowell really useful too...

    Yet Another Newby Rambling

Thanks to all who gave me advice, I have taken it all on board. When I see someone (who knows how long), I will calmly state my case, after all, if my GP is prescribing strips for Type 2 patients who were diagnosed a few years ago, and it is "necessary" for them to keep on having...

Good morning. I have been looking in on your Forum over the last couple of weeks, and have found it very useful. I was diagnosed with Type 2 and was px. Metformin 500 mg x 1 per day. I have been waiting for 4 weeks for 1st appointment with clinic nurse at GP surgery, only to have appointment...
