Need a Lantus meter with memory

Hi Yes - I got a Timesulin, but it just didn't work. I worked with the company and had several replacements, but they either false triggered or didn't trigger at all and in the end I just gave up. So that might not be the magic bullet. And it is never going to be as good as a pen that tells you...

    Quinoa Carbs

Thanks for that - I'd thrown my packet away. So I need to count them, however when I did DAFNE they told me to ignore some foods with quite a high proportion of carbs such as Parsnip (about 20%) because it was so long acting as to make little difference. I wondered if it might be the same for...

Need a Lantus meter with memory

For my quick acting insulin I'm able to use the brilliant Memoir Pen from Lilly, but nothing of the kind is available from Sanofli for Lantus. Last week I made the mistake (I think) of taking my long acting insulin twice and had a horrendous hypo in the night. Of course I can't check exactly...

    Quinoa Carbs

Does anyone out there have any experience of carbs re Quinoa - it's not mentioned in my DAFNE booklet. I think that they are about 20% carbohydrate, but I'm not sure if I need to count them or if they are too long acting to worry about. Quinoa seems to be an increasing part of my diet these days.

    New insulin Lilly Peglispro

How right you are! Had to look OP up on the net to realise that it was me. So you've taught me something as well. Thanks Diamatic

    New insulin Lilly Peglispro

Hmm so what if you do inject, but get distracted and forget to put the top on the right way? I agree that it's a great idea and indeed one that I will try to implement, but it's still only as good as your discipline and attention to detail. Some people are better at routines than others and it...

    Whoops. Lantus Mistake!

I can confirm that the Lilly Memoir pen only calibrates in single units, but I don't think that 1/2 units are needed for most people. The memoir pen is great.

Upcoming new Basal insulins and the changing landscape

Hi Tim. I've just become aware of this post. I just started a new thread that you may be interested in asking how many others there may be like me who will gladly move over to Peglispro if only to be able to use the memoir pen which may well have come close to saving my life more than once.

    New insulin Lilly Peglispro

Hi all You may or may not be aware that there's a bit of a battle going on in the long acting insulin world. Up till now Lantus has cornered the lion's share of the market, but Lilly is about to introduce Peglispro (how do they come up with these names) Apparently it demonstrates improved night...

    Insulcheck timer

Are you sure that the Echo takes Lantus - Lantus is not a Novo insulin.

    Insulcheck timer

Hi that is great news (re the Echo) I've just emails Novo Nordisk for details - It looks like it's aimed at kids - but I quite fancy a snazzy pen. I'll contact my nurse and see if I can get one. It also records the dose - like the memoir pen.

    Insulcheck timer

Um - if a disposable pen costs the same as a non disposable one and the non disposable one lasts 2 years (or more) then surely that is a massive saving. I admit, I've never paid for a pen in my long diabetic life, but I'd happily shell out for one that does what the memoir pen does, which is...

    Insulcheck timer

Has anyone else had a negative experience with this piece of kit? When mine arrived I fitted it correctly, but it would just restart the clock at the slightest jog. the next one wouldn't work at all, a third arrived with an already dead battery. In the end I just gave up. It's a great idea, a...

    injections at work

The work environment can be a tad boring. Having someone routinely stabbing themselves makes for some free entertainment  Seriously I've never had any problem and never felt awkward. I'm a teacher and I've injected and tested in front of colleagues and students. It's often stimulated good...

cannot get my sugars below 12!!!!

Hi I can't speak from experience because I am type 1, but I just want to say that if you do have to take insulin it's not the end of the world. I've been doing so for about 40 years. I have a friend who is certainly not obese and possibly not even overweight who is type 2 who takes insulin...

New (time since last injection) pen caps

Hi Does anyone have any experience of these? - Sounds like something I've been waiting for a long time.

GP pressure to use uniform testing strips

My practice, which has it's own pharmacy is pretty much insisting that all their diabetic patients move to the True Result meter and associated testing strips. Has anyone else had this kind of pressure and what do you think of it. I'd never heard of True Result before, but I was handed a tester...

    Eat, Fast and Live Longer

Hi I saw the programme with my wife. On my last clinic visit I was a bit over weight (79Kg) up 3 kilo's from this time last year and I really do want to get rid of some of the tummy. But I am a bit useless with diets, although we do live pretty healthily eating veg and fruit from the garden...
