Can I be carb sensitive but still have a normal HbA1c?

@EllieM I did have one way back in 2018 but can't find it now. I will try taking out pasta and rice (I was having at least 60g worth of carbs in those alone at night) and see how I fair. If I still struggle then I will definitely invest in a monitor again.

Can I be carb sensitive but still have a normal HbA1c?

@Outlier thanks for the reply. I'm cutting out the pasta/rice with my evening meal and will substitute with cauliflower, green beans etc. Basically I'll put the same weight in veg as I would have had in pasta/rice. I run 3 times a week so I convinced myself that I need the carbs to run but...

Can I be carb sensitive but still have a normal HbA1c?

Hi all, I posted recently about having high cholesterol but surprisingly my HbA1c is now in the normal range, I was first diagnosed as pre-diabetic in 2018. I am very careful with my diet in terms of sugar but still fear my carbs are too high. I fall asleep after meals, carry a lot of abdominal...

Managed to out of the pre-diabetes zone but now my cholesterol is very high.

Thanks for your reply @ajbod I do wonder if I am still quite carb sensitive as I will fall asleep after a meal and I feel hungry all the time. I tend to have pasta or basmati rice with my evening meal because I feel so ravenous. I was eating around 150g of Carbs a day to fuel my running but I am...

Managed to out of the pre-diabetes zone but now my cholesterol is very high.

Hi all, I came to this forum back in 2018 when I was told I was in the pre-diabetes range and also anaemic. I worked hard with my diet and managed to get out of the pre-diabetes zone. I was retested recently, having maintained sugar free and moderate carb diet and although I was still out of the...

    Is Eating Low Carb Expensive?

I have been very pleasantly surprised that our food bill is neutral and possibly a bit cheaper since going high fat/ low carb. As you say I eat less quantity but far superior quality. I used to be ravenous most of the time and think nothing of stopping at the co-op on the way home, buying a 100g...

Any Cyclists Here. Am Pre-diabetic, Have Dropped Carbs But Feel Weak.

Thank you :) It explains the hissy fits and tantrums I have had in the past when I have ridden my mountain bike for hours and not eaten properly.

Any Cyclists Here. Am Pre-diabetic, Have Dropped Carbs But Feel Weak.

@AloeSvea Yes. It was the first time I had tested while actually out riding and it was a real eye-opener for me. It's been 6 weeks since diagnosis and I have been sticking to hour long intense sessions at the gym, which push my blood sugar up after. I just assumed the same would happen...

Any Cyclists Here. Am Pre-diabetic, Have Dropped Carbs But Feel Weak.

This happened to me yesterday! I checked my blood immediately before I went out (confident it would be high enough for a two hour bike ride) and it was at 5.1 so I ate and went straight out. At 45mins I had dropped to 4.6 so ate again. At 2 hours I had dropped to 4!!! At that point I had arrived...

Any Cyclists Here. Am Pre-diabetic, Have Dropped Carbs But Feel Weak.

Hi! Yes I am now supplementing with something called Ferrous Fumarate the doctor prescribed. Then I will be rechecked in 3 months to see if the levels are up. I was given a full blood screen (that was how they found the pre-diabetes) and my thyroid was fine. I'm just so pleased to be sorting...

Any Cyclists Here. Am Pre-diabetic, Have Dropped Carbs But Feel Weak.

Hi Alexandra, Yep the GP did check them and I am very low (ferritin at 8) so I am taking Ferrous Fumarate an iron suppliment from the GP. I will have my levels checked again in 3 months :)

@Glink @Jenny15 Just to report back that I am feeling much better :) The low carb/High Fat is working. I have been much more energised and have even completed some run sessions and cycle sessions fasted! I have been taking iron supplements for a month now and eating iron rich foods and have...

Hi :) thanks for the response. Yep I am supplementing now but it will take a long while to get the levels up. My heart still does that horrid stop start thing sometimes which is related to the anaemia.

Glink I am interested in what you say about dawn phenomenon as I have this problem too. I wake every night at around 3am and depending upon how sudden the waking (sometimes I feel like I have been snatched from a deep sleep) I have to work hard to get back to sleep. It has got a little worse...

Any Cyclists Here. Am Pre-diabetic, Have Dropped Carbs But Feel Weak.

This is exactly what I have discovered since monitoring my bloods! This week was the first week I had my monitor to test around exercise and was gobsmacked to find that the biking sessions raise my BG. Previously I would have eaten something carby before leaving the house, taken an energy drink...

Any Cyclists Here. Am Pre-diabetic, Have Dropped Carbs But Feel Weak.

Thank you! I almost feel a bit emotional about it all as I have trudged on feeling rubbish for so long. My experience of doctors has been that they are reluctant to explore things and I have to admit I am reluctant to make a fuss. I am going to book an appointment asap to discuss.

Any Cyclists Here. Am Pre-diabetic, Have Dropped Carbs But Feel Weak.

Jenny, thank you again :) My ferritin level is at 8!! The doctor didn't seem to be worried and told me to take something called Spatone which is a very low dose of iron but easily absorbed. I think when I spoke to the doctor (a locum) on the phone he was more keen to discuss my HbA1c. I have...

Any Cyclists Here. Am Pre-diabetic, Have Dropped Carbs But Feel Weak.

Bless you for your lovely response. I am just so determined to stay out of the Type 2 zone as my dad and brother are both type 2 and really don't take care of themselves. My ferritin level was very low on my blood test but B12 sky high so that is another thing to talk with the dietician about. I...

I have started upping fat this week :) I am going to see a dietician at the end of the month who also specialises in sports nutrition so I will ask her about more fat etc. Have been keeping a food diary along with my blood sugar readings. Thank you so much!
