Bg machine testing accuracy - how accurate

Read the ISO guidelines for glucose meters. For those of you get mad, don't, unless you wish to make your own meter.

Bg machine testing accuracy - how accurate

You need to do more than one test per machine to judge accuracy otherwise it is an inaccurate result in itself. Note that all meters must conform to ISO standards so will be pretty **** accurate unless one of your meters in particular is very old. Obviously for test comparisons to be fair...

    Which Bread?

Accu-Chek Mobile would be great, if it didn't force you to use all strips within a month. If you don't use them, the meter will not read them.

    Which Bread?

ALL things in moderation. You're right, no carbs is not good... In fact, no carbs is impossible. I challenge someone to try zero carbs for a month... Pwahahaha

    Which Bread?

Well if you can't without any medication then you have no choice but to avoid it. Slow increases in glucose should be easier to manage but I suppose that's all dependant on how little sensitivity to Insulin you have.

Monitoring Glucose... Things I don't understand.

I most likely will go if asked to see a Diabetic Nurse, but I'll just bring my phone or find a way to export and print. I think that glucose Diaries for anything other than set meals and doses is the completely wrong approach and as said before, doesn't give the full story. A new approach...

Monitoring Glucose... Things I don't understand.

Yeah I'd love a CGM. It still infuriates me that greed is why Diabetes care in the UK is so far behind. Insulin pumps privately still cost up to £3,000, which, for a bit of plastic and a cheap pump mechanism is absolutely ridiculous. Of course the NHS hate giving these out. I'm not really in...

Monitoring Glucose... Things I don't understand.

I'm on Venlafaxine 375mg. The tablets don't affect my Diabetes but depression itself does. Delaying injections, or misjudging a dose only to delay a correction. Mostly comes down to not wanting to do anything. I eat more junk food as a result of depression, to fill time as well as pep me up but...

Diagnosed type 1 four days ago, couple questions.....

Go on a course to teach you to carb count. This is what they should be doing since day one. I taught myself and basically it makes Diabetes control cake, as long as you measure your carbs and inject appropriately. For example, I have 2 units of insulin per 10g of carbs. If the carbs are...

Monitoring Glucose... Things I don't understand.

Hello. I've had Type 1 Diabetes for 23 years, I am 26. There is a few things I don't get and over the last few years it has been popping up into my mind whenever I've been asked to see a Diabetic nurse and these past few months it just pops into my mind anyway. As a carb counter, injecting to...

    Which Bread?

Don't over analyse everything. Any bread other than white is fine. Anything with complex carbs is easy to control. Anything that effects glucose in a gradual way is better than anything that makes it rise quickly. This is the same for Type 1s and Type 2s. There is an exception and that is fruit...

    Can't be bothered anymore..

Yo I feel ya mate, I get tired of Diabetes and I've had it 23 years... I'm only 26 but I've also had depression for years. However, putting off injecting and getting high glucose even for a short time is actually going to make any tiredness or lack of desire to do things worse. I wouldn't...

    Salt advice please.

Unless you have an entire jar, which is highly unlikely in one sitting, I'd suggest you just get the normal stuff. Your energy levels are a transition period to diet change, nothing more. I personally believe that this 6g a day no rubbish thing is a load of ****, assuming you eat fairly...

What most ppl don't know about Diabetes!

This sounds bizarre. It basically is Type 1. The idea that after 23 years my pancreas still has insulin producing beta cells is wrong. The main thing is your pancreas is ******** and the treatment is more or less the same. I've never heard of Type 3c until now.

What most ppl don't know about Diabetes!

Combination of both. Risk based plus bad luck.

What most ppl don't know about Diabetes!

This is subjective. Complex carbs generally far are easier to control, especially when factoring in activity or work. Fats are good and delay absorption. What I hate is that most people always have and in this day in age still do think that Type 1s must 'not eat sugar'. The reality obviously...

I'm confused about what to do when I'm on the beer, Inject ? don't inject?

Don't do anything and monitor after. Alcohol can lower glucose later on as an after effect but the amount of carbs in beer is not a huge amount, so you have to take this into account. I don't find my sugar to go up much when I drink beer. Get yourself a few beers and do an experiment at home...

Hello... please be patient with me.

I apologise for the offensive dislikes; sometimes I find it frustrating how bad Type 1 Diabetes care is in the NHS and find the over abundance of obese folk to be such a crippling effect on the NHS. I can't help but see the majority of Type 2s as an avoidable condition that has an effect on Type...

Hello... please be patient with me.

Hello, names Lee. I signed up to this places years ago but I've barely used it, so this is the first time I've been back in a long time. I suffer with long term depression (surprise surprise, **** world n' all) and it's dramatically impacting on my Diabetes. I've had Diabetes for a long time...
