    Aches and pains

It could be that you are low in sodium and magnesium it is important to keep those up if you are cutting carbs. Check out the Virta Health website for info on this.

Feeling of lows when blood glucose normal

It could be you have an electrolyte imbalance since following low-carb - not enough sodium, magnesium and/or potassium... I don’t particularly like adding salt to my food so I buy size “000” empty gelatin capsules and fill them with salt and take a couple a day which has helped with my feelings...

Type 2 Should I be on Metformin?

Thanks @Debandez! As you say it’s not rocket science! Just a little encouragement would have been good rather than coming out of the surgery feeling a bit deflated...

Type 2 Should I be on Metformin?

Yes - so far so good with controlling my blood sugars with diet only but if I had known this was a real possibility when I was first diagnosed at 5.9% I might have avoided years of angst and potential damage...

Type 2 Should I be on Metformin?

Hi @HICHAM_T2 - don’t know whether he’s a smart doctor... I think it’s just a function of the Australian reference range cut off being 5.6% - after which Metformin can be prescribed. I only wish I had known about the potentially devasting effects of (particularly refined) carbs back then...

Type 2 Should I be on Metformin?

Thanks @bulkbiker it’s good to get a pat on the back! Whilst I did a lot of my research before joining this group, the encouragement to act on it and keep going has really come from following the people in this group who have gone through the same process to regain control of their health. It’s...

Type 2 Should I be on Metformin?

Thank you @bluetit 1802 - it’s great to get your support and a gold medal! Shame my doctors couldn’t give me a little bit of a hooray... never mind... I guess they don’t like being shown to be wrong even when the patient has clearly improved...

Type 2 Should I be on Metformin?

Well I stuck to my guns - no Metformin and had my HbA1c checked on the 6th November... On the 13th July, 2018, it was 7.5% (59 mmol/mol) and drum roll... on the 6th November it was 5.1% (32 mmol/mol) without drugs! So just under 4 months of LCHF alone brought my numbers into the realms of...

    Type 2 Blood pressure

The only problem is that I feel dizzy when it is this low... I wonder if it could also be that maybe I’m not getting enough salt...

    Type 2 Blood pressure

Green Tea seems to have dropped my BP hugely - in fact I think I’m going to have to stop drinking it as I have felt dizzy a couple of times and when I’ve checked my BP it can be ninety something over sixty something - just now it was 95/61...

Type 2 Should I be on Metformin?

Thank you all for your kind comments and help. I’m afraid I’m still trying to work out how to use the site and forum and not doing very well! I completely lost the thread for a while there and I’m not sure if I’m typing this in the right box!

Type 2 Should I be on Metformin?

Thanks everyone I feel a lot better and more confident now so I think I will continue with my plan and what I’ve been doing for the last 9 weeks or so without Metformin and see what the next HbA1c brings. My meals are pretty straight forward - generally my first meal is breakfast/lunch (I always...

Type 2 Should I be on Metformin?

Thank you both for getting back to me and the welcome. I have been following many of the posts and have seen the helpful advice from @daisy1 thank you. I suppose I really wondered whether others with my sort of BG results are still on medication and whether it helps with dawn rises or are these...

Type 2 Should I be on Metformin?

Hope I’m in the right place - this is my first post... I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes around 4 years ago with an HbA1c of 5.9 and put on x1 500mg tablet of Metformin once a day. My HbA1c has gradually crept up into the mid sixes (with no change to the Metformin dose or discussion about diet)...
