explaining what it's really like to live with Type 1

Can I recommend a DAFNE (Dosage Adjustment For Normal Eating) course to everyone who is a Type 1. It's a 5 day course (or was when I did it 15 years ago) and a bit like a Freestyle blood sensor, is life changing. It was available via my diabetic consultant at his venue in Tunbridge Wells. It was...

    Novorapid

Eventually managed to speak with a pharmacist at Kamsons today after my original order for pen refills was delivered (can you believe it????!!!) to me earlier today. Everybody seems confused!!! BUT I was told today that pen refills ARE still available despite being told (by them) a few days ago...

    Novorapid

Put in my order for insulin etc to my GP 2 weeks ago. It was all delivered to me last week except for the Novorapid (with a note to say...."To follow". Rang Kamsons last Monday to ask when the insulin might be delivered as I was running short and they said within a couple of days. They rang me...

explaining what it's really like to live with Type 1

Been Type 1 for nearly 50 years. Takes a while to learn to manage your condition effectively and in relation to specific thoughts about long-life and possible complications. Also, recognising low and high blood sugars before testing....your body always tries to let you know...listen to it and...

    University Student Advice

I can see your issues with accommodation etc but I can't help but pick up on your comment "my diabetes isn’t that well controlled". I think it's really important for you to get it well controlled not just for your own longer term health but also, as an operational nurse with clinical decisions...

    Is this a Hypo?

I absolutely agree with Charly that you need some professional input, be it your GP, diabetic nurse or best of all, your diabetic consultant if you have confidence in him/her. I think your BP also needs investigation in case it is not BS related. Best wishes.

    Carpel Tunnel syndrome

Also had both hands done. Back at work after 2 days (office worker at the time) and driving, safely, after a week. I'm lucky to be a good, quick healer and so your return to work really does depend on the type of work you do and how well you heal. But do be careful for a couple of days after the...

How many eggs can you eat?

I've been Type 1 for 43 years and have never had any problems with eggs in whatever form. In fact, because they don't have carbs they're a great way of filling that hunger gap between meals without having to worry about either carbs or additional insulin. I usually have a couple of boiled eggs...

Can people explain how they feel during hi's and lo's?

I had a hypo many years ago I will never forget!! It was a hot August Sunday afternoon and I'd bought the kids a large metal climbing frame. Halfway through putting it up in the garden I could feel that I needed something sweet. At that point I suddenly felt that I was 'at one' with Nature. I...

How many eggs do you eat per week?

Anything up to 30 a week. They're great versatile 'fillers' and no carbs. Boiled, scrambled, poached, occasionally fried and I love a 3 egg omlette with cheese and mushrooms, and bacon if I've got some. And my cholesterol readings are never above 4. Denny

Hi everyone My name's Denny. I'm 59 years old and had type I diabetes for 41 years. And yes, I'm still in pretty good health. I retired 2 years ago and live in a wonderful town called Sevenoaks in Kent. I'm divorced with two sons aged 31 and 28 and have a gorgeous partner sharing my life...
