Basic questions - how sugary are non-sugary drinks / food

Try Choco Logic Belgian style dark chocolate - tastes like lower cocoa content chocolate, but 1/6 of a pack is 2.5g Carbs, 0.4g sugars and 1.2g of which are polyols.

Why won't the NHS tell you the secret to treating diabetes?

"Why won't the NHS tell you the secret to treating diabetes?" Because it takes an age for them to catch up, do so many trials (that would absolve the NHS of any blame should someone die) and because its not in the interest of drug companies to have a 'cure' that would require little to no...

    Diabetic food

Guess I'm different to most, I used to love the crisps, chocolate and so forth. The low carb diet keeps me at HbA1c of 38 mol/mmol (or lower) but its boring as ****. Other than the meat maybe. Do I miss the treats? yes! its like being punished every day....

    Diagnosed Yesterday

"eventually got a call back from a nurse who proceeded to tell me that I have Type 2 Diabetes and I was prescribes Metformin over the phone" God bless 'em, they love to chuck that sh!t out at the first sign of a (reasonably low) T2 diagnosis. One day your average GP might catch on to the...

    Unexplained non diabetic sugars

Not sure if the attached link is of any use, but the Ketones and blood glucose swings seem odd....sometimes worth giving source material to your MD like this as it may awaken a new avenue of exploration....maybe?. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5131811/ Am guessing the fact that...

    A1c finger prick test

I have used the "A1C Now" home tests, and whilst pricey, was bang on the money with results when compared with NHS test results.

    Blood sugars coming down [emoji106]

Yeah...really. Must be a life of abject misery i would expect.

    Blood sugars coming down [emoji106]

"A1c up to 4.6% = 26.8mmol/mol" Drug free, and that figure?!? that's stupidity. Even non-diabetics sit well above that!.

My gut feels like a rollercoaster. Won't stop gurgling.

"My blood sugar has come down a lot since last night when it was at 21.6." Sadly my man, that's likely a huge part of your issues. I know only too well, as pre-diagnosis (58 mol/mmol), i had very similar gastric issues. The likely 'cure' here is to restrict the carb intake and exercise (if your...

    Eye screening drops/photograph used

When i went for my last one, the person carrying out the test said that i didn't require the eye drops as they could see all that was needed through my naturally dilated pupil(s), so it is possible to have the test without the need for eye drops. The room is usually darkened, so maybe that helps...

One size of T2 fits all....?

Okay, have posted a few times in the forums now and since original diagnosis in January of this year, have lost 3-stone in weight, low-carbed and low sugared my way to non-diabetic HbA1C levels averaging 37 mol/mmol. All of the above should mean (if NHS expertise in the field of endocrinology...

Type 2 hypos - no meds

I suspect that some people naturally have physiology that operates on a daily basis above the definitions that define being (more specifically T2) Diabetic. A little like with higher BP.

Problems going back on low carb :(

Sounds suspiciously like a metformin issue wrt to bowel issues.....the wonder drug that causes all kinds of **** (literally).

    Incompetent medical professionals

Locally at least for me, my local NHS surgery (and associated GP's) are relatively useless in any instance. The perceived lack of knowledge and ability is astounding and am guessing they must have been a delight at a student doctor level (i assume they even completed it lol).

    Anyone else get muscle twitching?

Oh yes! I get plenty of that at various times, and can be all over my body - tends to in the main be in legs (calfs) but left side if chest, arms and even neck sometimes. Never had these symptoms until I decided to lose 3-stone in weight (8 weeks) and adopt a LCHF diet style. Also have tinnitus...

    Light-headed, Ketones and T2....

Yes, diet remains the same with regard to slat intake - in fact, i have elevated BP, so not looking to indulge in too much salt by way of increase - although i do understand the thinking behind that, as usually low BP can cause similar symptoms...unless i am elevated due to white coat syndrome...

    Light-headed, Ketones and T2....

"and you reckon you are in ketosis? I find that a bit odd.. How are you measuring your ketone production?" No, No i don't as my numbers are normal and no other symptoms - was merely asking the question as i can not think of why i would have the acetone smell after consuming carbs....if bloods...

    Light-headed, Ketones and T2....

Yes, i drink lots of fluids....about 1.5 to 2 litres per day on average, and just found it odd that the acetone smell seems to always be coincident to a large carb intake - normal?

    Light-headed, Ketones and T2....

So, have had now for a few months a light-headed feeling, maybe vertigo (along with tinnitus) and generally eat circa 1500 calories a day (male), usually a mix of vegetables, meat and fruits (berries) along with small amounts of carbs (about 50-100g per day estimate). I have noticed that when...
