    New Pump and Ratios

Hi I am getting a pump at the end of August and wonder how critical it is that your Insulin to Carb ratios are accurate. I have a rough idea but get varying results depending on how active I am etc (like everyone) and tend to keep an eye with libre and just correct if necessary. Should I...

    Ratios and rises

Hi wonder if I could pick your brains on a couple of issues I have. I’m relatively new to insulin and am currently on Levemir and Novarapid. Firstly my bolus ratios in the morning are about 1:8 but for dinner about 1:15. Is this ‘normal’ to have such a variance. Secondly even with 1:15 in...

    50:50 Basal Bolus ratio

Hi I understand that there is a general rule that your basal and bolus should be roughly split equally (that you should take the same number of units of each). My split is roughly 35:65 and if I up my basal end up low overnight. I’m on the libre so can see what is happening. Should I be...

    Basal Insulin

Hi thanks for your reply. My diabetes team told me that if it was greater than 7 in the morning to increase by 2 units which is what I have done and had better control today.

    Basal Insulin

Hi I have a question about my basal insulin. I adjusted it up last night to 12 units and it brought me down to a high of 12+ to 5 during the night and 7 on waking. I have fasted this morning and its sitting in the 6’s. My question is if I happen to go to bed tonight sitting at say 8 will it...

Diagnosed type 1.5 but no sign of hospital appt for insulin

Hi Thanks for all your replies. I had GAD test March 2019 which showed antibodies (I also have several other autoimmune conditions). My GP questioned if it might be 1.5 then but didn’t communicate this to me and let me get on with it as was managing with diet alone. Mid July I lost all the...

Diagnosed type 1.5 but no sign of hospital appt for insulin

Hi thanks for your reply. I am keeping an eye of my ketones thanks but just feel so tired all the time and a bit fuzzy. Am back at school as a teacher and am also a bit worried about BS being out of control in the current climate as understand I might be more vunerable to poorer Covid outcomes...

Diagnosed type 1.5 but no sign of hospital appt for insulin

I have recently been diagnosed type 1.5 after a year managing on a low carb diet. My BS started suddenly being very high about a month ago. I am on 2000mg metaformin but it is making no difference with fasting levels of anywhere between 15 and 19. My doctor has referred me to the hospital to...

Should I push for insulin to preserve remaining beta cells

Thank you all for your responses. I will seek a referral to a specialist I think. The GP did acknowledge that they sometimes wait too long to do just that. Thanks again Rhona

Should I push for insulin to preserve remaining beta cells

Hi I am looking for some advice. I was diagnosed March 2019 with type 2 and have had good control with diet and exercise. Over the last couple of weeks I haven’t been able to control my BG and went back to GP who told me I had tested positive for antibodies back in March 2019 (no one told me...

Help to understand what’s going on?

Had a conversation with doc this morning who told me that I had indeed tested positive for GAD antibodies over a year ago and was most likely LADA. They didn’t think so at first as I had not followed the normal pattern for someone like this as I had been able to manage up to now with diet and...

Help to understand what’s going on?

Hi thanks for the replies. I did try a new batch of strips and even a different meter as that was my first thought. I will phone the doc tomorrow and see if I can get tested for type 1. She did mention on the phone the other day that I had antibodies present at the initial diagnosis (which no...

Help to understand what’s going on?

Hi Hope some of you guys can cast some light on what is happening with my BG. I was diagnosed over a year ago, have lost 3 1/2 stone and have been managing very well on a very LCHF diet - under 20g carbs daily - HA1BC of 6% consistently. About 10 days ago my BG started to rise and has been...

    Questions re alcohol and fat

Both and in quite large quantities I'm afraid. Feel better for not drinking generally but annoyed about bloods. It would be a shame to start drinking again just to control blood sugar!!!
