Does heat cause insulin resistance? I'm baffled as to why my sugar is spiking when I'm not eating many carbohydrates

There's a few reasons your blood sugar has risen, you might need more insulin with your food or your background insulin could be too high, it also depends on what you eat. If you eat protein, fat, or fibre before carbs this will stop blood glucose spikes. I always take insulin 20 mins before I...

Do you remember what triggered your t1?

I woke up one day and sat up then went dizzy and the room was spinning, I was diagnosed with Labyrinthitis. About one year later I became very ill, I was thirsty all the time I'd lost weight and was vomiting and urinating lots. I was taken to hospital and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, that...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

My latest Hba1c result was 36 (Tuesday 6 June), I was told at the clinic it should be higher. The doctor said aim for 48 or 50 something, I have read that too low a number can cause retinopathy. It seems most people on here aim to get their Hba1c in the 30's. I'm not sure which is best.

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

I use the libre 2 and it's useless for detecting hypos, most of the time it's too late or the alarms never go off. I've had it saying my blood sugar was below 4 lots of times when it's actually been 5 or more. I end up using more strips to test properly because of it. It's nearly always out by 1...

    Adjusting background insulin.

Will adjusting my morning background insulin (levemir) affect my bedtime insulin? I used to take Glargine once a day but it was no good so I tried Levemir and this is what I take twice a day now. Should it be adjusted by 2 units at a time (like it was with Glargine) or 1 unit at a time?. Any...

    Daily hypos

T1 nearly 4 years. I usually work out my insulin myself as I know the ratio etc . I had wondered if it could be the ratio needing adjustment as I've had to do that with my breakfast and supper ratios in the past. I've never adjusted my dinner and teatime ratios.

    Daily hypos

Usually in the afternoon. If my blood sugar is around 5 before a meal then it's usually about 2.5 to 3 hours after a meal. I take the amount of insulin my Aviva expert says but sometimes I will do things like empty the washing machine and put stuff on the clothes horse or walk down 4 flights of...

    Daily hypos

What are the long term dangers of daily hypos? If there treated quickly will there be any long term dangers other than losing hypo awareness?

    Type 1 Libre 3

You need an Android phone with NFC (near field communication) to use Libre sensors. As long as a new phone has this feature it will work. Not all phones have NFC so make sure you check the phone for this before you buy one.
