    T1 and breakfast

I have had a problem with spikes after breakfast, a fairly loaded 78g of carb, and I was taking 8 units of Novorapid. After the spike I would drop to borderline hypo. I now am fine, my bolus dose is now 6 units,I do not get the spike and avoid the low readings three hours later as well. I am...

I haven't seen my BG in single figures in a week now... basal or bolus issue?

Feel your pain, having real problems getting my levels down, recently diagnosed and the insulin seemingly does not want to play. Dosages agreed with DSN seem to have no effect. Visit with the GP tomorrow, hopefully more advice there.

Feeling a bit abandoned by system

Not a fan of fizzy drinks, but could make an exception. Have been given lift gluco drinks on prescription, only a couple, before everyone gets jealous Fair to say though, the car and coats will be stocked enough to enable me to be mistaken for an American ‘prepper’ waiting for the zombie apocalypse!

Feeling a bit abandoned by system

Yes, into town tomorrow and do a shop. Getting glucose tablets, and energy bars. The bars for the car, house, coats. Tablets for trousers and coats. All very new to me. Not managed to get the glucose down to target figures yet, so hypo seems a long way off, but suspect it is now when I am...

Feeling a bit abandoned by system

Thanks. I am keeping a diary with carb intake, timings, glucose levels etc. Have my first meeting with nurse tomorrow so hopefully she can give more guidance. On a positive note my blood glucose was in single figures for the first time, 7.8. Now to fine tune it with diet, as I am still on...

Can We Talk About Small Towns & Big Cities?

I live near a small village if that counts! Grew up in Newcastle, then lived around the South of England when serving in the Army, now live on the West coast of Scotland, can honestly say the pace of life is different, did not wear a watch for ten years, only started wearing a smart watch for...

Feeling a bit abandoned by system

Just been given permission to administer corrective doses. Have been told by the DSN that 1 unit of Novorapid will bring my readings down by 3mmol. Was at 19.3, so 19.3-7=12.3 therefore 12.3 requires 4 units. Four units taken. My only concern is that I believe that my corrective dose will...

Feeling a bit abandoned by system

My BMI is 29, but I need to gain some weight as I am a big build, (not just fat) need to put on another stone/stone and a half. Want to do some exercise, but blood sugars too high according to the guidelines I have been given, ie 16 mmol/l Just generally frustrated at not being able to do more.

Feeling a bit abandoned by system

Thanks to everyone for the replies, did not expect sooooooo much support. It is reassuring to know that a lot of what I have suspected is true. Also did not consider risks of lowering blood sugar rapidly, to me it seemed sensible to zap it with a few big doses and start from the new low level...
