    Humulin1

Hi @Susan SS, Welcome to the forum. Humulin insulins are based on regular human insulin. I think Humulin I is called NPH outside the UK. NPH is a 'cloudy' insulin with added zinc to give it a longer profile than regular human insulin, it is slower to start and longer to finish working. It is...

Does anyone understand the nitty-gritty of looping?

@EllieM , can you see what insulin the pump has added, and use that to update the basal profile that it will use the next day? Is the algorithm aggressive enough to temporarily double or triple the basal rate?

Does anyone understand the nitty-gritty of looping?

Thats interesting. My DP strikes 2-3 hours before I wake up. My BG will sit level all night and suddenly it will start to climb, often up to 12 by the time I wake up. I always take insulin after I wake. If I'm not eating I take a correction.

Does anyone understand the nitty-gritty of looping?

Fair enough. I assumed Ellie was looping, and she said she increased the basal. I use numbers as examples because I can think in them and do calculations with them. 2.4= 2*1.2=12*0.2 nothing special about those numbers just easy to work with. I bet the algorithm is using numbers to do its...

Does anyone understand the nitty-gritty of looping?

Still trying to get my head around that. Lets say I start at 1.2U/Hr and absolutely want 2.4U/Hr between 5:00 and 6:00 Then in manual mode where the pump only knows its pointy end, I came up with this schedule: 3:30pump supplying 0.1U/5min, 0.1U/5min of insulin will be released into the body...

Does anyone understand the nitty-gritty of looping?

Hi @evilclive, I really do appreciate your input. However I do find it a bit ambiguous. Confused. So does "currently thinks is in your body" include or exclude the insulin in the subcutaneous fat? Does it include or exclude the insulin that is no longer in the subcutaneous fat? Yeah, I'm...

Does anyone understand the nitty-gritty of looping?

Thank you so much everyone. I think DP is worthy of its own thread. that is the crux of this thread. Is that increase just in the insulin put into your subcutaneous fat OR does the pump/algorithm do some fancy calculations so that that is the increase into your blood?

Does anyone understand the nitty-gritty of looping?

Thanks @evilclive, I'm not good at 'blind faith'. I like to know what things are doing. I think it is worth separating things, a pump without loop vs with a loop, etc. I don't know enough about either. The algorithm being preemptive is scary. It would have to start putting in insulin well...

Does anyone understand the nitty-gritty of looping?

Thanks guys, Please don't get me wrong, I am not saying that HCL doesn't work, just that I don't understand what it is doing. It is all too easy to forget that insulin while it is in the subcutaneous fat depot is not doing anything to lower your plasma glucose. I have a mean dawn phenomena...

Does anyone understand the nitty-gritty of looping?

I've been sitting on this question for a while, but I cant think it out. I really like the idea of an IV insulin pump that reads near IV plasma glucose and makes immediate adjustments accordingly - count me in. However pumps are not IV, but inject into an infusion depot. Consequently they...

Fed up of all thing’s diabetic

Hi @abigailsheree , I feel your pain. I too am 25years in, though diagnosed older, and I expected by now I'd have it worked out, but diabetes doesn't work that way. I get abused by HCP's because my body is broken and not doing what they want. I frequently get told I am diabetic and must do ...

Omnipod 5 & Freestyle Libre 2 Plus Hybrid Closed Loop

Hi Everyone, I was wondering can you get your raw data, BG and insulin provided etc, from this system onto your computer? It seems that you have to sign up to a data centre and your data is sent there automatically, but I'm not sure what you can get back.

It made Oi larf (serving sizes on high-carb snack foods)

Crisps are my kryptonite too. And they price a large packet just a little more than a packet a third of the size, I try not to even go near that aisle.

Libre - Anyone have a collection of old software?

My windows died a few months ago. On that computer I had software to retrieve data off of the old Libre1 reader. The installer was called "FreeStyle Libre Installer-ROW.exe". and it ran on WinXP ( and Win7.?) I have set up a WinXP Virtual machine, and would like to install this software. If...

Anyone know of Linux Software for Carsens meter?

Thank you so much @SimonP78, I did see Tidepool but it looks too complicated. Besides the application seems to be a conduit between the meter and their cloud platform, you must be connected to the web when running it. It seems to be aimed at providing processed patient data to health...

Anyone know of Linux Software for Carsens meter?

Thanks Simon, I'm not a Linux expert, but I tried wine and a VM but couldn't get them to work with the meter. Both of these seem to want a Linux driver before they will use the USB the meter is attached to, but the driver is a USB<>com. And there seems no way to tell the windows software (smart...

Anyone know of Linux Software for Carsens meter?

As the title says. I have had the Caresens for ever and used to get the data onto a windows computer as .csv. But my windows died and the new computer has Linux. And I want to do the same. Any help appreciated.

    I am NOT a diabetic ...

@HSS, [in response to I have never been treated different] You have never been told that "diabetes is a progressive disease, and that that your health will suffer the longer you have had diabetes". I have developed a number of other conditions since/in conjunction with developing diabetes. My GP...
