    DKA

So last Thursday when working away I woke up in the night with D&V. This continued for a number of hours. Throughout Thursday I couldn't get out of bed. Friday I felt no better but Saturday I felt better in the afternoon before waking up on Sunday to feel dreadful again. I continued to get...

    alcohol.

Haha at the footy on a Saturday about 10-15 pints, plenty of shots and a few vodkas usually. Not good for you but its game day Saturday gone I had about 30cl of vodka on the bus before having about 5 pints in the pub and we got a bottle of apple sourz to drink on the way to the ground. I do...

    Burnout/Stress

The insulin you take will start working after 15 mins or so but won't stop the spike. The insulin is to control the spike and bring it back down. Mine seems to take about 1-2 hours to get back to the same level depending on what iv eaten. You say you are worried about injecting in public. I say...

    Insulin pump

Thank you. That's all good advice. I suppose with me and my work it's the worry of catching it when I'm laid under baths or removing everything. I'd seen the patch pump and if I was to go for one I'd prefer something like this which doesn't have any extras on it. I'm happy enough with changing...

    diabetes complications and travelling overseas

We get yearly insurance which as soon as I had to declare it went up about 20%. It is still cheap enough but if you search insurance companies you'll find good ones

    First hypo

I keep the small tins of Fanta and Dr pepper in the fridge. If I have a hypo I have one of them then something small like a pork pie not too long later. This works for me but not everyone else. You'll find what you need to do the more they happen. Don't over eat though. Even if you are...

What is the no 1 thing that frustrates you about living with type 1 diabetes?

I agree on that. I imagine it was alot worse than it is now and in x amount of years we'll be saying how easy it is compared to now. Iv got the libre 2. Best thing I got. Due to my job as a bathroom fitter I requested it as to do finger pricks it was a nightmare. They are great to check...

What is the no 1 thing that frustrates you about living with type 1 diabetes?

We definitely live with it best we can. The day they find a cure would be great or even managing it without having to do much would be great. Some days it's not even an issue but the next it can just cause loads of issues.

What is the no 1 thing that frustrates you about living with type 1 diabetes?

Exactly. It just never goes away. Some days you just forget about it but when you have weeks like I have just had when bloods have just dropped quickly as you've worked an extra hour or so at work. It's all the planning of things and making sure you have the right things with you

What is the no 1 thing that frustrates you about living with type 1 diabetes?

I hate everything at the moment with it. Bee T1 for 3-4 years now. You just can't have a day off from it. Check bloods. Take insulin. Check bloods. Take insulin for dinner. Check bloods again and again. Insulin for tea and any snacks then insulin before bed. I'm just fed up that bloods can...

    Insulin pump

Over the last few months I have struggled with controlling my T1 diabetes like I normally do. I have been stressed for weeks which hasn't helped things so when I have had a check up at the hospital in the last week the doctor discussed if I'd ever thought about using a pump. Iv been finding my...

    Stomach issue

3 years is mad. I know sometimes it's hard to get answers and to get it sorted but surely it should be quicker than that. As you say living with the pain is horrendous My issues were last year which went and then came back about 8 weeks ago. Every week iv pushed for it to be taken serious...

    Stomach issue

Thanks. Its not nice when you get fobbed off which I was until I had seen this doctor who isnt happy there's no obvious reason so has said to test a high dose of meds first. Over the weekend Iv felt better but still alot of pain in the stomach and today have been falling asleep all day. I'm...

    Stomach issue

Might be a but of a rant but Iv fed up tbh and just sick of things at the moment. Back in October I had issues with my stomach which turned out to be Gastritis, I was put on meds to help clear this up which seemed to do the trick. Anyway about 4 weeks ago I started getting some symptoms back...

    exercise raise blood sugar

When I am cycling I tend to drop so have to keep up with carbs, jelly babies, cereal bars and a sugary drink do me. When I play footy it's the opposite, I can start a game at say 7 and be 12-13 after Iv played but it drops back down to normal within about an hour. I don't tend to take any...

    What to take?

Good shout on bolus a little earlier. I will try this. I don't have issues with it coming back down, it's just when I have food it might spike at 18+ but for very little time. Whereas when I was on Metformin it wouldnt spike like that. My levels of levemire and novarapid seem to be fine...

    What to take?

I have been type 1 diabetic for about a year and a half now but been on Metformin for about 2.5 years. I always had no issues with Metformin at all but the back end of last year and into this year I noticed that I was stinking all the time. I couldn't stop pumping and it smelling repulsive so...

    Just been told to shield

Strange isn't it. I'd never if expected to get one Just done the score on that link above and got 62/100 so middle of the road really. Might ring the docs on Monday and just ask them for some background on why. I need to ring them anyway for old medical records of an old surgery Iv had

    Just been told to shield

Iv also been told to shield. Came in to a letter telling me I was advised to because of health reasons. I'm type 1 but have no other conditions. I'm generally fit, cycle alot and play football normally but also my hba1c came right down over the last year. I'm only 36 aswell The only reasons I...
