    Understanding Blood Sugar levels

Since diagnosis I have never had a "Low" - my lowest ever was 5.8 while in hospital (food was terrible so I was eating very little!). I take my insulin at 20.00 so that is about an hour after dinner, and 3-4 hours before bed. As it is slow release I have no idea what it really does! I do know...

    Understanding Blood Sugar levels

No reasons given - I just do what I am told. No-one has ever suggested before and after meals (haven't got enough fingers to prick!), and have not been told not to do first thing (which also tends to be before breakfast), nor last thing at night (about 3 hours after food). I clearly have no idea...

    Understanding Blood Sugar levels

After a review in March I was told to test 4 times a day - fasting, before lunch, before dinner and bedtime, but in May they told me to reduce to 3 times a day, which I have done since then.

    Understanding Blood Sugar levels

I was diagnosed Type 2 about 15 years ago - not sure exactly how long as I was on "diet and exercise" for about 12 years and managing to control my blood sugar (between 7 and 9) without too much effort. 2019 I needed a biopsy (on what turned out to be bone cancer) but my sugar levels were too...

Confused about rising overnight blood sugar

I am T2, originally diagnosed over 15 years ago, but only on meds (insulin and janumet) for 3 years (prescribed to lower my levels for surgery!). My daily readings are on the high side - last 7 fasting (before breakfast) have been 9.9, 11.6, 11.5, 10.4, 11.4, 11.4, 11.7 (11-12 is my usual...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

15.1 at 7.00. Generally mine is 10 - 12 fasting, so today a bit high - and no idea why! Due a review at the end of the month, and insulin (Toujeo) still being amended (raised it myself to 46 units once a day - following guidelines from my advisor - this week). I have had Type 2 for over 15...

    Stevia Crystals

I used the Stevia drops (pure, no additives) while in Brazil, where most sweeteners are sold in liquid form, but found it hard to control the dose, so usually too sweet for me. Prefer the crystals.

    Toujeo

I have been on Toujeo since starting with insulin in 2020, and am currently on 44 units at night - but my sugars are still not really under control, though not alarmingly high. I am not an expert on glucose management, but how are your sugars during the day? There is a "condition" called The...

    Stevia Crystals

There are so many sugar substitutes available on the market, and many have terrible aftertastes or are probably worse for you than sugar! While living in Peru I came across 100% pure Stevia Crystals from Bolivia - and by 100% I mean there is absolutely NOTHING added to bulk it out. They provide...

My story updated after insulin prescription.

I have been absent from here for too long, but feel my story needs updating since a lot has happened. I am Type 2, and now take insulin daily, after over 15 years on "diet and exercise" control. At the end of 2019 in Brazil I had my biopsy on Chip (the lump on my shoulder) - they were not so...

    Sulphur Burps

I know this is an old thread but that list linked contains EVERYTHING that is on a low-carb diet, so basically everything that I eat! Mine is passing though!

    Bad experience with Metformin

My Type 2 is the non-medicated variety, but to reduce my blood sugars for a biopsy (which I still have not had!) I was prescribed Janumet (Janumet is a combination of oral biguanide, metformin, and dipeptidyl peptidase-IV inhibitor) for a week - and it made me very ill! I was nauseous and had...

    My Type 2 story

About 15 years ago - I cannot recall exactly when - my GP in the UK diagnosed me with Type 2 Diabetes due to high blood sugar readings. I had a friend who was Type 1 who managed his very well and still managed to eat “treats” and drink in moderation, and had to self-medicate with insulin, but...
