HBA1C results back today, looking good but wanted to check

I have a diabetes team??? I've been disappointed by the support, to be honest. I had to beg for a blood test in January, despite being pre-diabetic a few years ago. Saw my GP who gave me the results in mid January, but there's been no appointment about eyes or feet or any of that. My GP said I...

HBA1C results back today, looking good but wanted to check

That's really interesting, thanks - I'm curious to see how it goes with me. Point taken about the long-term effort! I won't be going back to my old ways.

HBA1C results back today, looking good but wanted to check

Thanks! Pre-diagnosis in mid-January 2020: eating mostly vegetarian with a bit of seafood. My wife eats wholefood plant based so most of the home meals were very low in processed foods and a lot of beans and pulses quite a bit of pasta, rice, bread etc graze freely from the biscuit tin, eat...

HBA1C results back today, looking good but wanted to check

Thanks - yeah, I've got no desire to go back to the way I was eating and drinking. This has been a real shock to me and a very humbling one.

HBA1C results back today, looking good but wanted to check

I'm assuming so. I'd be interested to hear what people's experiences are of coming off metformin and how it affects HBA1C - from what I read in trials it only lowers it by about 1% compared to placebo so I'm really hoping that my result is due to diet rather than medication.

HBA1C results back today, looking good but wanted to check

I was diagnosed T2 in January with an HBA1C of 76. Diabetes support services seem to have stopped in my area during Covid, so I cracked on with my diet and meter etc at home and finally got a follow up test last week after asking for one. Phoned the surgery for the results today and it was 33...

    Eating dates (the fruit)

It's not that I struggle to accept it, I was intrigued by the seemingly contradictory conclusion from that paper - that was why I asked the question here. I wonder if the fact that the study discloses an affiliation to the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority is significant, given the UAE's...

No, it certainly wasn't! Can you delete your reply please? ;)

    Eating dates (the fruit)

I idly googled the glycemic index of dates and their effect on diabetes, expecting to see 'duh...of course you shouldn't be eating those heavenly slugs of sweetness'. Instead I found a lot of clickbaity 'health' blogs calling them the next best thing, and a paper in Nutrition Journal that...

Confused over BG - higher in mornings than afternoon

Hmmm...to be honest I'm not much wiser after watching that! Dr Fung seems to say it's the liver dumping out excess glucose during the night and that it's not good or bad per se, just a sign that there's still too much glucose in the liver (https://thefastingmethod.com/dawn-phenomenon-t2d-8/) and...

Confused over BG - higher in mornings than afternoon

Weird...I wish my liver would just read some of Dr Fung's work because I love the intermittent fasting. My morning reading has been pretty much the same since the beginning of Feb so it doesn't seem to be rising, which I suppose is reassuring.

Confused over BG - higher in mornings than afternoon

I was diagnosed T2 in January with HbA1c of 76. I've been treating it with metformin and diet. I've recently started testing my BG at home much more (terrified by corona) and the last couple of readings have confused me a little - 6.4-6.7 first thing in the morning, then 4.9 2-4 hours after...

    Quick question about BG units

Sorry, it's the SmartLog app that comes with the Tee2. I just wanted to check that I'm converting it right because it seems like quite a drop in a short time. The Tee2+ shouts out things about blood sugar, it's a bit blatant.

    Quick question about BG units

My Tee2+ meter came yesterday and I've just tested for the first time. The reading was 6.4 which the app shows as 115mg/dl. My only other frame of reference was the HbA1c test I had on the 19/1/2020 which was 76mmol/mol. I've looked up the chart at https://www.diabeteschart.org/bgc10.html and...

New T2, surprised, shocked and really annoyed

Hopefully I'll be able to do similar, although I have been wondering if eating legumes at pretty much every meal for the last year has caused my BG to soar. Just waiting for the meter to arrive now! Congrats on getting to where you want to be, in a funny way I kind of welcome this kick in the...

New T2, surprised, shocked and really annoyed

That's very sage advice. I've been sliding towards veganism because ethically I can't really justify to myself not doing it. I need to balance that with my own health though...hopefully the meter will help guide me to a comfortable arrangement!

New T2, surprised, shocked and really annoyed

Thanks, I'll look at the Diet Doctor. I see a lot of avocados and eggs in my future...I just hope hummus doesn't react badly with me!

New T2, surprised, shocked and really annoyed

I agree, I think a lot of the confusion over health issues can be blamed on competing studies of wildly varying quality. I just liked how this paper graded their evidence by study quality, with high scores given to those from randomised controlled trials. The proof for me is going to be in what...
