    Insulin help ...

Hi, its so handy that you're on a libre as that makes testing a bit easier. Its seems that your insulin requirements have changed (doesn't really matter why - could be honeymoon, stress, sleep or well pretty much anything). I've found that instead of trying to work out why, its easier to just to...

    BG Monitoring on Satnav

Oh really, good spot. Well in that case, there probably isn't one out there. Saves me the search cheers

    BG Monitoring on Satnav

Cheers for that. I was thinking that i might go for a garmin bike computer like an edge 520 plus. It has maps but you can also add extra datafields onto the screen (normally something like cadence or heart rate or something that cyclists like to know)....but in this case the xdrip datafield...

    BG Monitoring on Satnav

Hi Jaylee, that looks good and yeah I currently just use my phone or have my BG on my watch but I'm also wanting to see whether there are any dedicated satnavs out there that can also show BG readings.

    BG Monitoring on Satnav

Hi, I'm wondering if anybody has a recommendation for a satnav that can display blood glucose as an additional datafield so that it can be seen at a glance whilst driving. I have a dexcom g6 with nightscout set up through xdrip so I thinking that perhaps a garmin cycle computer would be a...

Newly diagnosed, up and down like a yo-yo

Hi,. So yeah BG levels vary naturally, even in people without T1D. For those with T1D, perfectly matching the performance of a non-T1D person is going to be hard for a number of reasons. The pancreas is constantly managing hormones to keep BG's in check where as we're faced with some...

Is Creatine safe to take , also can it give fake kidney readings ??

Hi, I'm type 1 and do take creatine monohydrate at a maintenance dose of 5g/day. I took creatine before diagnosis to support training and for the various well-studied benefits (https://examine.com/supplements/creatine/). However, the research on creatine use in T1Ds specifically appears to be...

    Dexcom Query

Hi, First let me just say that different BG monitoring tech suits the needs of different people. Some people like the constant data of a CGM and some people could find it intrusive, annoying or daunting. In that sense I don't think that any BG monitor is the "best" - it's just what suits each...

    Continuous Glucose Monitoring while Running

Hi, I'm T1 but I have plenty experience running so here's some thoughts: I was actually diagnosed quite late in life and already had a long background running. Initially I didn't have a CGM but found that I could run okay (ish) if I did short loops (around 5k ish) and would check by bloods by...

    Managing exercise and insulin

I do quiet a bit of different activities and have learned that for each I've had to experiment to find out what works best. Over time I've slowly built a insulin/carb protocol for each and when doing something different for the first time I generally take a best-guess and bring plenty extra...

    T1D onset during the Pandemic

Yeah I think I had actually read a press release on that study too. I think I'm trying to collect the full bingo list of those autoimmune conditions now.

    T1D onset during the Pandemic

Firstly, kudos for mixing you A1C units. I'm becoming a units conversion master these days. So it sounds like maybe your T1D had been slowly developing for sometime before maybe some infection like covid pushed it over the edge?

    T1D onset during the Pandemic

Yeah living through the misdiagnosis of T2 must have been pretty trying. It's good to hear things are getting back under control now. I think maybe your story highlights one issue that might arise (assuming coronavirus did contribute to onset of type 1). It's possible that there might be a...

    T1D onset during the Pandemic

Oh absolutely. I completely agree, and I don't think covid caused my onset of T1D. To be honest, in daily life, I never really even think about it. I was asked by a friend yesterday whether I thought Covid led to the onset of T1D and my answer was something like: "I dunno, maybe it was Covid I...

    T1D onset during the Pandemic

You know it's hard to tell. I mean I had a cough that lasted for a fortnight whilst taste buds were pretty unaffected. My wife who also had the infection was running a fever. It all gets complicated to discern though as the t1d onset had its own symptoms that get mixed in there too.

    T1D onset during the Pandemic

Geez 126 is stupid. Must have been rough, we're you in hospital already because of covid then? Well done on getting back down to 42 btw.

    T1D onset during the Pandemic

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that. Yeah I had a throat infection and cough that I picked up off my wife after she'd been travelling around the UK with work. It seemed pretty normal for the first week and then quite rapidly progressed through the normal diabetes onset (extreme thirst and peeing...

    T1D onset during the Pandemic

Hi all, I was diagnosed with T1D near the start of the pandemic at the age of 32. At the time, there was no testing available, so I'll never know whether it was the Rona that triggered my onset. I've been interested in keeping up with the research on the subject though - there appears to still...

At what age were you diagnosed?

I was 32 - There's variation in different parts of the world but give or take, the age of onset normally follows this kind of trend:

Type 1: Is It Ok To Eat Chinese

Hi, firstly I'll just say that in my opinion it's okay to eat whatever you want. Fundametally we're not 'intollerant' or 'allergic' to foods of any kind. We just don't naturally produce insulin - that's all it is. Chinese food (and indian food) sometimes get a bad wrap because providing the...
