    Newly LADA

Hi Kcov, Hope you are doing well already and getting used to it. I was diagnosed in february and for about 2 or 3 months I didn't have fast/bolus insulin. I just managed my levels with super low carb and exercise, after every meal I'd walk and I was training every evening and that helped a...

Fatigue in Type 1 Diabetes - Not related to hyperglycemia

I got diagnosed in February and while generally I don't feel overly tired, I feel like my body does. I used to train 2 to 3h a day and be fine, then had an overtraining injury and now it's been almost 2 months. I feel weaker, muscles hurt more and longer and I need more rest days than before. I...

Diagnosed Type 2 in January, Strange turn April

Are you watching your carbs? Salad could be a potato salad with sugar dressing, or there could be hidden carbs in your dressing. Testing is important, it gives you knowledge to see how you react to different foods and if you have big spikes or drops.

    Super happy at HbA1c!

Thank you so much for telling me this! It makes me so happy I can actually inspire people even without being a pro athlete I can tell you, and I know I felt the same at the start, but taking insulin is no issue. You get used to it qui. Especially at LADA where you still got some insulin left -...

    Super happy at HbA1c!

Hi everyone, I'm super happy and just want to share: Diagnosed in February this year, I felt so lost and shocked. But I researched a lot, made connections and learned a lot. Things have been improving more and more. I've joined facebook groups, athletes with diabetes groups. I wasn't able to...

Newbie question - what am I aiming at?

Not as low as possible, as too low is bad too. But in a healthy range so your body can function normally and so you avoid all the nasty complications that can arise from high blood sugar. The end game I'd say is a healthy diet you can stick to that let's you eat enough, gives you enough energy...

Newly diagnosed and unable to see a health care professional due to covid-19

Hi Karen, I'm new too, barely 2 months since diagnosis. I was on my own at first too, but there is tons of information out there. A lot of it on this message board but I just kept googling for different key words and read more and more books. Hopefully you can find information from people in a...

    Can’t eat anything with carbs

Hi Starstruck, I'm new too, diagnosed only two months ago. What really helped me was reading and researching as much as I could. I read several books, found blog posts, found other organisations and people, started my own blog to write everything down. I started to write down experiments too...

    End of Honeymoon?

Thank you, this was very useful indeed. It seems to change quickly. I found I'm dropping quickly during exercise so I'm hesitant to up basal too high but seem to need it for meals. I definitely don't need to worry about keeping weight but I want enough carbs to have full energy to train. Also...

    End of Honeymoon?

Hi everyone, I seem to not be able to handle food anymore on my basal only. It seems very sudden to me. So I was diagnosed 2 monthd ago and was on basal only and was doing alright, stayed well below 200 /11 and most of the time cruised around 100/5.5 mg/dl. Even had some low issues when cycling...

Foods to have before a run?

I've been experimenting with that, different foods before exercise. Worst is cycling for me, I need quite a few carbs it seems, at least 30mins before cycling. Chocolate milk also seems to help. You just need to experiment and see what works for you, test before and after.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.6 this morning, after forgetting my insulin yesterday. Must be all the cinnamon that cured me o.0 Luckily I'm still on a very low dose of basal only, so low carb and exercise was enough to keep me level - and I know this won't last either.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I had 6.88 this morning, I'm often lower during the day but can't seem to keep morning figures lower.

    Help please.....

Another thing with exercise is you are used to a certain level. Ie walking all day and working out mucking stalls is normal for you whereas an unfit person may struggle. But if you want to lose more weight and get fitter, you need to do more on top of that. More active muscles means better...

Dropping too low when cycling home

Thank you for this, your eating scheme makes sense and you cycle huge distances, but I just checked mine and one way from work to home is about 5.7/5.8 miles...and I take about 45min for that, so it isnt a huge distance or at any great intensity. Im3not used to cycling much, I usually do martial...

Dropping too low when cycling home

Thank you, yes I think you may be right, my endo did mention that I can adjust doses. I was fine for a while on 5 units and 3h a day training, no cycling. Then without work or training and only home training I needed 8 units to keep level. I don't work out that much at home but I guess cycling...

Dropping too low when cycling home

Thank you, I don't have any bolus insulin, only Lantus in the morning and I only took 4 units this morning too, usually 5 or 6. I know during honeymoon insulin production can go up and down, I'm really wondering if i should lower the dose even further and stay low carb and see. I really want...

Dropping too low when cycling home

I'm a teacher but this week we had no kids in so I was basically just sitting. I was up at 8.7 at my usual time to finish work but a meeting went on for another 20minutes so I started cycling at 7.6 and 45 min later as I got home I was at 3.8. I did take 2 glucose tablets as I still had to...

Dropping too low when cycling home

Hi everyone, I'm having some issues with my blood sugar during exercise, in this case cycling. I started cycling to and from work, about 40-45min and I'm not a pro cycler, so fairly slow. In the morning, I take my lantus, around 5 units atm, and a banana and I'm good to go. I spike to about...

    GAD results received omg!

Recently diagnosed at 33 too, completely fit and healthy before, no specifically traumatising event - seems to just happen sometimes.
