Adopting lower carb diet causing temp rise in blood sugar?

My HbA1c has been creeping back up from 49 in Aug2020 to 58 in June this year. I initially successfully went from 107 to 49 after Type 2 diagnosis in March 2020. A month ago I took myself in hand and went back to lower carb diet I adopted before aiming for 60-70g of carbs a day which worked for...

    FBG and HBa1C relationship

I’ve sorted out what spikes me these days so unless I have something different to eat. I do test before and within 2 hrs of meals for 7 days once a month tho. I run between 5 and 7 during the day as have done for ages, the only thing that has changed is the fasting one

    FBG and HBa1C relationship

Hi! I was diagnosed last March. At the end of last month thought I would make a separate note of my fasting blood sugar every day and went into the contour app to back date too. Annoyingly found it went back only to October now rather than June when I bought it but that is by the by. I...

    Absent Mindedness/Concentration

Hi I have IBS too and on diagnosis was stressing re the side effects of metformin. Have been on SR 1x500 for 9 months now with no ill effects. Hope this is the same for you.

    Carb intake

I aim for 80-90g carbs spread across the day. My highest meal is breakfast of porridge and berries. Was very relieved this doesn’t spike for me, 2 hours postprandial am around 5.8 [emoji4]

Triumph (HbA1c) tinged with frustration (cholesterol)

Hi! I was diagnosed with similar figures to yours in March with HbA1c 107. Have been following lowish carb 70-90g and higher fats (loving cream in my coffee) Cholesterol was 5.3 in June and is now 4.7 with HDL & LDL in the right proportions at last. Only thing I have done extra to you is...

Thanks, that’s so good to hear. Have been beating myself up about it. Hopefully we can both stick to 1 metformin or even better none.

Fasting blood glucose raised, hoping for reassurance

Am feeling really annoyed with myself. Had managed to get my levels down and although my fasting BS was typically 6.7-7.0 by the time I have had porridge and walked dogs is always down to between 5.5and 5.7 2 hours later. We have just had a lovely week on holiday in the Lakes but did fall...

    Dawn phenomenen

I have seen on a number of posts where people have successfully lowered BS and HbA1c scores that although their day time BS levels are much improved they still have that higher one in the morning. I’ve noted that this Dawn phenomenon is often cited as being the last to come down and can take a...

Home HBa1c test kits - any good?

Thanks will bear that in mind. I’m would be using it to get a ball park interim figure at first so I can get an HbA1c value every 3 months in my first year. Hoping it will be lower again but need to know either way. Feel like I know more what am doing diet wise and BS readings vary between...

Home HBa1c test kits - any good?

I was wondering about the volume of blood thing. I’m hoping it will be an improving situation as would love to get down to the normal range. Was thinking about maybe doing at the end of September which would be 3 months since the June one. Leaving it til Christmas would be 6 months.

Home HBa1c test kits - any good?

Hi! I tested very regularly initially, I was lucky in that my DN gave me a monitor at my first visit to test before and 2 hours after on 2 meals a day. I was able to find out what spikes me and what doesn’t. After my second test she said not to do it any more but I still do if I have a new...

Home HBa1c test kits - any good?

I was diagnosed back in early March with type 2 Diabetes. Fasting BG 19.7. HBa1C. 109 prescribed 500 SR metformin once a day. Following lowish carb 90g have lost 4.5 stones and at my follow up blood test at the end of June had reduced my HBA1c down to 50. My DN very happy and said to...

Is there a best time to exercise?

Hi! I was diagnosed back in March with a fasting blood glucose 19.7 and an HbA1c 107. 4 months on my HbA1c is down to 50 through lowish carb (70-90g) and HF, fasting blood sugar in the high 6’s. I have lost 4 stone and am back to a healthy weight for the first time since my early twenties. I...

Latest HbA1c so much better than the last

A random fasting blood test in early March this year at home of 19.6 horrified me and made an appointment to see the GP asap. A blood test ensued and resulted in a call from the hospital late that night to check I was ok and to advise returning to the GPs in the morning. Admittedly the test...
