May the 4th be with you

Ok, so it's the 5th today but I meant to post up yesterday but got distracted with uni stuff and friends comming round for dinner, to celebrate star wars day. For me it's not just a geeky fun day it's also the day I got my pump 8 years ago and my life hasn't been the same since. Getting a pump...

    Flu jab - any opinions?

I had the Flu jab from first diagnosed, but stopped getting it 7 years later when I was 18 as every time I got it I ended up having really bad colds coughs and chest infections. When I stopped getting it these eased off a lot, so I just decided I didn't want it anymore. Not that I'm saying...

First "at home" trial for an artificial pancreas

Thanks I had the name actarapid in my head I thought it was because it was a fast one I wanted to try. Anyways paprika was the one I asked for and got told I wasn't suitable to use in a pump. They couldn't give a reason for it any of the Times I've asked for it now I have the chm they might...

High blood sugars but low GI eating. Max 100g-120g carbs a day.

Hi penny I got that your levemir is already split I was suggesting that you take the 40unit dose in the evening split and the 40unit dose in the morning split so 4 injections in total to reduce the potential for pooling when it's such large amounts. The 40units in one go could potentially be...

First "at home" trial for an artificial pancreas

I'm on Humalog, but would like to give aprida or actarapid a go. It makes sense to me to use the fastest acting possible in the pump, but have been refused every time I've asked to try it. There may be a reason for it but they didn't have one, just got the generic it's not suitable!

First "at home" trial for an artificial pancreas

I was wondering how further along they were getting with this, I'm really tempted to change my insulin in my pump to one with a quicker rate, I hate have to bolus before and have it all planned out in advance. I wonder also how they are getting on with the glucagon? At present I believe it's...

High blood sugars but low GI eating. Max 100g-120g carbs a day.

Might I also suggest that taking 40units in one go might be causing you some issues as well. I was on a similar dose pre pump, and kept having to up it and up it as it appeared it just wasn't working. when i changed consultants to go on the pump she suggested that I split my already split dose...

    Pump Theme Tune

you could definitely change the old 2020 tune to one you made up yourself using the ezmanager software. But I don't think the diasend does the same. I still have the ezmanager I might try and see if the vibe will connect with it as well or if it's too outdated and see if it can work. I quite...

    Animas Vibe skins

I would call up and ask, generally they are quite slow at replying to emails. They did have lots of skins for the 2020 and gave out free ones at one point. I tried to put that old one over the vibe but the vibe is slightly bigger so it doesn't work as well. I'm pretty sure they'll have a skin...

    Order To Animas

Also you can order via email but you need to ask about this when you call up, and they should set it up for you. I tend to order 6 months worth in one go as the courrier cost gets charged to the NHS so might as well only pay that twice a year.

What reason are you on a pump?

Hi I lost nearly 15kg when I got my pump, I din't have a good HbA1c though went from the 14's % down to 8.3% within the first few months. It was a combination of me having more energy in that, my blood sugars were more controlled and taking a lot less insulin. On MDI I was on something round...

Which results in more hospitalisations: severe hypos or severe hypers (DKA)?

Hello everyone, (nice to be back) Pre-pump I essentially lived in hospital due to DKA infact I've had it more times than I can count. At the same time I was also having extremley bad hypos, these were only really bad when I was asleep (hence the danger) everytime a paramedic was called they...

Basal test... or dear god when does it end?!

I thought it would be a flat rate as well or at least that's what I was basing it on for the last 7 years anyways with the CGM my eyes are wide open!

    Pre-conception

Hi emma, Welcome to the forum. Loads of type 1's have healthy babies everyday even with mothers who don't have good control so don't stress yourself with horror stories. From talking with my dr's a few years ago i believe the target HbA1c is below 6.5% or 6%, so you're already pretty close...

Basal test... or dear god when does it end?!

yep Personally i get completely different results if I have to wake myself up and have broken sleep compared to a solid lump of sleep so would just go on the CGM for overnights as well as for the rest of the time fasting. What I'm doing is just calibrating in the morning and then again at...

    Infusion site infection

I would try anti-septic cream or tea tree first with keeping it clean but don't cover it up as the air helps it heal. If it's not seeing any improvement from that then get it checked out. Laura

Good pump clinic in East Midlands/ London/ Taunton??

Oh that's a shame, feel the same way about the Aberdeen clinic. Are you thinking of moving as well or was it a general ask about other pump clinics? I found Dr Watson fantastic there was always something more to look at and investigate, to give even better control and she was lovely to just...
