    Random 3am spike

I didn't give any advice. Nowhere do I suggest action. Yes, I made an assertion. This is how ideas develop and arguments are built. Another issue with Lantus is greater intraday variability than other modern analogue basal insulins. This can make getting good consistent control more difficult...

    Reduced alcohol tolerance

It probably has more to do with age. I don't drink wine in the evenings anymore because it messes with my sleep patterns. I only drink low alcohol beer, no later than 5pm or I have to get up during the night!

    Random 3am spike

Looks like a shorter acting basal would suit better. Then, in addition to the morning shot, as much as needed can injected at night. Doing this with Lantus may also work. Longer acting basal does not provide this flexibility. The 24 hour action profile of the insulin can not be changed. As for...

Do you bolus when you are at work? | Hypos at work | Lunch at work

The short answer is, try it out and see what happens. Not bousing would not work for many. But for someone who is recently diagnosed and still making lots of insulin, just eating a low-carb lunch may work. Having said hat, testing basal action to see how background insulin needs are covered...

    Blood sugars rising during sleep

Sounds like you need more basal insulin action during the night. What basal insulin do you use and when do you inject it? If it is not the very long acting type, changing dosage and/or timing should help.

Blood sugar reading after eating food

It depends on the amount of carbohydrate and GI (glycemic index) of the food. The chips and bun raise blood glucose very quickly, within minutes. But fat in the hamburger patty reduces glycemic index of the meal. Supply of glucose into the blood would probably peak within 30 minutes. What...

    Baileys

Will a 'tiny bit' be enough for you? It wouldn't for me, which is why sticking to Whisky or Bourbon works better. They don't contain carbs, having a bit more is is not a problem. Having said that, a small amount of Bailey's shouldn't be a problem. The hard part is knowing how much to bolus.

    Erratic BG

Sounds to me like inadequate basal. Fiddling with boluses becomes like trying to push water uphill if basal is out of line. Test your basal and then figure out what needs to be done.

    Injecting

I use longer needles. They can still draw blood but don't leave such big marks. Absorption is better. I also give half of my shots into the butt. Lots of adipose tissue there and very few nerve endings. So painless and doesn't get marked. It is a good idea to rotate injection sites. I use the...

    Low Carb or LCHF

Fat consumption does not affect cholesterol at all. Cholesterol used to block that vein came from the liver. Do some research on it.

    My blood sugars are high

Seroquel is known to increase blood glucose. Discuss your options with your doctor.

    I'm high and I don't understand why...need help

Being high all the time usually suggests a basal issue. Bear in mind that your insulin requirement could change over a short period at this stage. 10 units of Levemir is a small dose and you may want to test it again. I would want more rigorous basal tests to be done, one in the morning, one in...

    Stubborn spikes!

You are observing the so-called Dawn Phenomenon. In the early morning, the supply of hepatic glucose increases and blood glucose goes up.

Any suggestions would be appreciated please!

Those are good books to get started with. When you have read them you will have a clear idea of what you still want to find out. I find Google useful in finding answers, but it can require some sorting through.

VERY HIGH spikes of sugar hours after white rice

The size of the meal probably had a lot to do with it. I find blood glucose stays up for while after a big meal. A while ago I did an experiment Richard Bernstein describes, of eating a whole head of lettuce. Almost no carbs, but blood glucose went up.

    t2 injection?

That wouldn't be insulin. It has to be injected every day. Ask for more details. The GLP-1 RAs can be injected weekly, but I don't know about monthly.

VERY HIGH spikes of sugar hours after white rice

In your initial post you describe how blood glucose went up for 6 hours after eating, in spite of injecting lots of extra insulin. That would be consistent with reduced insulin sensitivity during that 6 hour period. This happens when I go to a steakhouse and eat a big steak that also contains...

VERY HIGH spikes of sugar hours after white rice

Did you eat food containing fat at the same time as the rice? Because fat causes a temporary reduction in insulin sensitivity, the insulin requirement is increased and the requirement is dragged out for hours.

VERY HIGH spikes of sugar hours after white rice

Sounds very familiar. I used to be able to deal with it, but it became too difficult. So I stopped eating food that had this effect.

Over 70 type 1. Very frequent hypos! HELP!

Only insulin makes blood glucose go down. Oher factors can affect the rate at which it happens, but when there are lots of hypos it usually means the insulin dosage is too high. Eating to prevent a drop in blood glucose shouldn't be necessary, especially for elderly and inactive people. Are you...
