Should you eat ‘Little and Often’ or have periods of fasting during the day?

No problem! I’m new to the forum and don’t know best practice on posting.

Should you eat ‘Little and Often’ or have periods of fasting during the day?

Interesting. I’ve only been monitoring my blood sugars since early July. I was getting high readings in the mornings so started eating a small slice of ham, chicken or cheese first thing and this seems to have helped with that particular problem. As an aside, when I look at my blood sugar...

Should you eat ‘Little and Often’ or have periods of fasting during the day?

I’d like to test this. Week on each perhaps and try to eat the same things but at different times. Maybe not as easy to keep this up as it sounds though.

Should you eat ‘Little and Often’ or have periods of fasting during the day?

I sort of assumed that you want to keep your blood sugar at a constant level during the day, hence the thought that regular eating might stop highs and lows, but what you say makes sense too. I suppose, as suggested by others, I need to test the different methods and see what works best.

Should you eat ‘Little and Often’ or have periods of fasting during the day?

It would be helpful to know answers to the following for T2: Which works best to (lower and) regularise blood sugars? - eating little and often eg every two hours - intermittent fasting (definition?) As an example, if you don’t generally eat in the morning until after you have exercised...

    How important is weight loss?

Thanks for all the additional replies and interesting discussions. For info, my BMI is 31.6. I’m 5ft1 and weigh 167lb so to reach a normal BMI I ought to lose at least 35lb. It sounds now like successive bouts of low fat diets over the decades (apart from a temporarily successful Atkins diet)...

    How important is weight loss?

Thanks for your replies. I’ve been trying to lower my blood sugars since mid July. I haven’t had any bread, rice, pasta, potato, pastry (apart from one thing on 2nd Aug that spiked me to 12). No bananas, apples. I reduced the carbs I’m eating from ~60 to 25-35g a day on 7 Aug (thanks to this...

    How important is weight loss?

I have read that being overweight is a symptom not a cause of diabetes. I don’t know how true this is but as a newly diagnosed T2 diabetic I would like to know how important it is to lose weight. If I got closer to a normal BMI would my body heal itself and then be able to process sugar/carbs...

Type 2 Trying to avoid medication, what should my blood sugars be?

I think I need to go lower carb. I lost a good amount on the Atkins diet a long time ago. Bit worried about cholesterol though as I’m generally 8+. Thanks for the cheesecake link, I’ll be trying that one out!

Type 2 Trying to avoid medication, what should my blood sugars be?

Thank you! That is very positive. Please could I ask how many calories/carbs you have a day? I’ve not lost anything so far. Also a recipe for low carb cheesecake - sounds delicious!!

Thanks, that’s good news. I didn’t know where 55 was on the scale. Thanks for the help. I’ve learnt more reading posts on this forum than anywhere else.

Type 2 Trying to avoid medication, what should my blood sugars be?

Thanks for your advice. I’ve already had a letter to arrange my next HBA1C test but I haven’t done it yet as I want to wait a couple of months so I’ll have had three months on low carb. Hoping the result will be lower. I’ve got an eye test this Friday which will be interesting. I only found out...

Type 2 Trying to avoid medication, what should my blood sugars be?

Thanks for replying, I haven’t tried things like bread or porridge yet, mainly eating meat, cheese, veg. Once/if I can get my levels consistently down I’ll then try my favourite breakfast of boiled egg and marmite on wholemeal toast and see what it does.

Type 2 Trying to avoid medication, what should my blood sugars be?

I was diagnosed T2 about six weeks ago with a HBA1C of 55. I have had to watch my weight all my life and have yoyo’d between 10 stone - 14 stone (I’m 5 foot 1 so my BMI is high). For the last three years I have stayed stable at 12 stone and actually was happy with that, having upped my exercise...
