    Tendonitis

I’ve had foot problems for quite some time now, and am only now thinking that this could be connected to being T2. When the first lockdown happened in March 2020 I had just started physio on my foot. Previously I’d been told it was tendonitis but this physio was stumped. I was due to have an mri...

    Cholesterol

I was a week into LCHF at that point and had had no fruit for a week (doc told me to avoid it all!). Prior to that I’d had lots of fruit juice and fruit salad, but I’m not sure how long that would affect trig levels for?!

Thanks - I guess I'll just keep going and hope things continue to improve in the HDL and Trigs department. The reduction in Trigs has been pretty quick initially, so I imagine that might slow down, but fingers crossed that by my first 3 month check (April), and next Hba1c test that all figures...

Update: New blood results, based on 16 hour fast: Total count: 4.8 HDL: 0.8 Trig: 4.2 LDL: 2.0 LDL/HDL: 0.38 Non HDL: 4.0 These results are obviously quite different to the first test, but that was taken when I was only 1 week into LCHF diet (I'm now 1 month in). My trigliceride levels are...

Thanks everyone. I’ll get retested! It’s a bit of a mystery....

    Cholesterol

Thanks. I’m new to all this so don’t understand how it is impossible for the triglycerides to be 13.8. Is there some sort of calculation? I was told my cholesterol in 2016 was 6.6, so I’d be surprised if it’s now way more than 7.2 now (although I was only told this result from 2016 this week!)

@bulkbiker my results are here, and they were correct - off the scale! Not sure if this means I really must take the statin or not.

Thanks, I’ll try to get the correct numbers tomorrow. I had fasted from 8pm the night before and had my appointment around 9.30am, so over 12 hours.

    Cholesterol

I’m really confused! The dr said my triglyceride levels should be below 2 but are 13! And the TC to HDL ratio is 12. Could these be in different measures to normal? He wants me to take a statin as he says the levels are high, putting me at 20% risk of heart attack (double what it should be for...

    Cholesterol

I know this is mentioned elsewhere on the forum, but I'm a bit confused by my cholestrol results. I knew to ask the Dr for my overall count, my HDL and my LDL and trycs but he couldn't give them all to me as some levels were too high?! My overall level was 7.2. I've noted down that my ratio to...

    Thanks - all useful advice!

    Fasting?

I've been diagnosed as a T2 for a few weeks now. I've followed a LCHF diet and my BG levels are now averaging 6mmol throughout the day (testing before and after meals with no spikes detected). My HBa1C was 101 at diagnosis. I'm not taking any medication, as opted to try diet first. However, I...

    Diagnosed today

Hi and welcome! I'm new too (diagnosed a couple of weeks ago) and the advice here is brilliant :-) Getting a meter will be really useful, and you'll quickly get used to testing throughout the day. I decided to avoid the medication I was prescribed for now and have instead changed my diet -...

Newly diagnosed T2 - meds or not?!

Thanks. The optition was great and told me it would likely change within a few weeks and so was reluctant to actually test my eyes. I pushed him to test so that I could get some super cheap glasses for the interim, so I can't blame him. I need to work on the computer and can take a few days...

Newly diagnosed T2 - meds or not?!

Thanks, taht's reassuring to hear! It's really worried me as it feels like my sight has changed overnight, but good to know it's normal and will hopefully stabilise!

Newly diagnosed T2 - meds or not?!

As an update, things are going well, I think. Yesterday and today, all my readings have been between 6-7, which is a huge change from even just a few days ago. My fasting test today way 6.7, which I'm really happy with :-) Still work to be done, but the low carb diet seems to be working so far...

    Diagnosed today

Hi, I'm by no means an expert as was diagnosed myself a short while ago. My Hba1c was 101 and I was told to go on medication and not change my diet, other than to reduce sugar intake. I decided to try a low carb diet first and at just over a week on, my blood sugar levels today have all been in...

Newly diagnosed T2 - meds or not?!

Thanks, I’ll look up those papers :-) I totally agree with your approach, and I really hope I can see similar results!

Newly diagnosed T2 - meds or not?!

That’s a really good point, I think. If there is a formulaic approach to dealing with newly diagnosed T2s based on levels then a GP may not have encountered someone able to commit to a diet change immediately to address the problem, and bring levels down that way. I can also understand it from...
