    Struggling Diabetic

It is a big number, mine was 74 to start with but in 3 months I got it down to 49 with the changes I posted earlier. I do also take 2 metformin but I know thats a personal choice.

    Struggling Diabetic

Hi Diagram. I have been diagnosed for around 4 months now and all I can say is that there is lots to learn. That said the easy wins are exercise especially first thing in the morning, I walk to work its only 20 mins but it has really helped. Secondly and this is a very simplistic explanation...

Following on from my Hba1c update.

Rightly or wrongly I am giving HRT a try from Monday as I really cant cope with the crazy stiff joints anymore, its really hindering my exercise.

Absolutely you are so right! I just cant believe how much better I feel from 18 months ago. Now if I can just get this pesky perimenopause sorted........

Hi everyone, sorry if this is a little bit self indulgent but I just wanted to share what a difference physically my improved hba1c has made to me. Before and "in progress" pictures.....a fabulous side effect of reducing my blood glucose!

So excited I'm definitely getting there!

Thank you! Yes I have a meter and I can usually stick within 2 given that I've mainly given up all heavily carby food. I seem to be ok on the 2 but the long term goal is to get rid of the medication all together but one step at a time.

    Help with carbs

I try and eat about 50g per day but I was advised that diabetics need to stick to less than 130g. Keto waffles are the best thing ever for a quick lunch, I have them with peanut butter and a little jam. As for tea we eat a lot of versions of meat and salad! Buffalo chicken with celery sticks...

So excited I'm definitely getting there!

I had my 3 month Diabetes review a couple of weeks ago and my Hba1c is back and its gone from my first test of 74 to 49. I am honestly so happy I actually cried. It just goes to show that all the hard work with regards to eating low carb, reducing stress and moving more has paid off. I am...

    How to tolerate hunger

On my x-pert course we were taught that so long as the snack was less that 10g carbs it wouldn't break the fast. This gives loads of options depending on what you fancy. Cheese, nuts, ham, olives are all delicious and should help to fill you up. However that said we were encouraged to eat...

    Low carb; how many?

I stick to 50gs a day, including the milk I have in my coffee etc. I rarely go over 25g in a single meal and it seems to be suiting me. For breakfast I have less than 5g as I cant deal with the carbs first thing. Find what works for you and set your own limits, trial and error is well worth it.

I had a takeaway for dinner

Hi Sparkle What did you have from KFC? I usually get the salad and it doesnt raise my blood glucose much. The sandwich, yogurt and grapes are all high carb and carbs are essentially sugars, so it will raise your blood glucose. Maybe have some ham and cheese with olives, if you are after...

1 year in, still overwhelmed scared and confused

I was diagnosed 3 months ago and I understand completely how you feel, I remember vividly crying that I could never eat a McDonalds hash brown again, ridiculous I know, crying over what was making me ill, but that was just how I felt at the time. I woke up one day and just said right im not...

Peri Peri chicken is our go to meal, with a Greek salad or feta salad depending on which chicken shop we go to, delicious!

    What's happening

I would highly recommend trying to get onto a Diabetes X-pert course. They will provide you with a good education regarding what to eat to help your T2. They recommend a low carb, high fat diet to get your diabetes under control. Counting calories doesnt work well for us T2s you need to cut...

    Slow release metformin

Obviously I cant offer medical advice but I would go back to the 3 if you were feeling ok taking them. With the low carb diet and the weight loss you probably dont need the 4. I was advised to stick with 3 as I couldnt get on with 4, same symptoms as you really but I have managed just fine...

    Newly diagnosed

See if you can sign up for the diabetes X-pert course. I have just completed it and its absolutely brilliant. It explains how the eat-well plate (high carb low fat) works for others but not for diabetics and how we need to stick to less than 130g carbs a day. I stick to between 30g and 50g...
