    Ketone blood meter

I've gone for the GlucoRX HCT. Thanks for the input. The glucose strips are about £15 for 50, the ketone strips are also about £15 but for 10.

Thought I would ask for recommendations for a ketone + glucose meter as the OP has helpfully titled this thread to fit!

    Low BG on low carb

It was actually the post that grannypat has just quoted that I had in mind, when I said I didn't want my body to think of my keto lows as my normal, so when I go to low carb soon my body can cope and keeps my BG low instead of over compensating. Perhaps I misunderstood HSSS post? The stress...

    Low BG on low carb

Thank you all for your replies. I wanted to quote this because I have indeed had gastric surgery .. a gastric band. This was emptied at the start of the pandemic (due to discomfort) and not adjusted correctly (to this day). As a result I gained 50kg (yes kilos) in 18 months and I'm afraid I'm...

    Low BG on low carb

Thank you for your replies :) My carb intake is very low (less than 22g a day), and yes I'm probably in ketosis. I didn't know I could lower my blood sugar enough to feel ill just by diet alone. :O I guess that means water fasting is out of the question. I'd heard it can reset all sorts of...

    Low BG on low carb

Hi I got a pre-diabetes diagnosis in December and after reading and researching I decided to alter my eating to low carb. I test before and after meals and my fasting level. I've managed to get my readings into the 4s and 5s, but several times a week I catch my BG in the 3s . This is usually...

Best app for food and BG

Hi I'm new and have 2 free apps, one for bg, one for food diary. Is there a good one that does both? I am new and I'm trying to understand which foods to avoid, made difficult with the data being split between 2 places. Thanks Nicola

    Trying not to freak out

Hi Zoe, There are some really informative replies here so I will try to keep mine short being brand new both to diabetes and this forum. I also had a bad sugar habit but seem to have lost my addiction to sugar over the course of just a few weeks. I have found some great recipes to satisfy the...

    Pre-Diabetes?? Confused

I noticed you're near me @bulkbiker - I'm in Littlehampton. Thanks for the recommendations! I'm not too far out price wise with the testing strips then.

    Pre-Diabetes?? Confused

I bought my meter only a day or so after diagnosis so didn't have the benefit of a great deal of advice. It's a Sinocare Safe AQ. Now I wish I'd bought a combined glucose and ketone meter. Thanks for the links! I will be changing at some point. :)

    Pre-Diabetes?? Confused

Thank you both. The bypass is a more reliable replacement for the gastric band, which I've had for 15 years. I am aware it's not the answer for everyone but it worked for me for 14 years until the NHS decided to empty it in may 2019 and refused to refill it because of covid restrictions. In that...

    Pre-Diabetes?? Confused

Thank you @ultradad . Funny you should mention shredded wheat as the doc I watched last night said it has a GI of about 74, higher than the GI of sugar (64) and one slice of wholemeal bread (70). No wonder it spiked your BG! :wideyed: I have been following a low carb high fat diet, as you...

    Pre-Diabetes?? Confused

Thank you all for your replies! I do understand that worrying about whether I'm type 2 or pre-diabetic could be seen as splitting hairs. For me, it is important they get this right. I am under a bariatric team and have a gastric band - bypass surgery (which is what I want), is only offered to...
