Wife got diagnosed 4 weeks ago, she is now converted, this is the way

Which is why I quoted another study which clarifies that point directly.

Yes it is transitory and in fact part of the healing process but dismissing "oh my god I want to die" neuropathy as being temporarily uncomfortable is unhelpful at best. While that case was precipitated by insulin the neuropatrhy was caused by the rapid change glycaemic levels. The fact that...

They is the newly diagnosed. Jumping directly from a standard diet to 20g of carbs absolutely guarantees they will feel god awful and may well even precipitate nerve problems. Suggesting people break into low carb gradually is clearly not being prescriptive. It is being realistic.

    Newbie terrified

You can learn a massive amount from just having one for a month and you might some find free one month trials. You will be able see what food you tolerate well, and what ones you don't. Armed with that knowledge you can formulate a game plan that works for you long term.

No it won't guarantee that you will completely avoid complications. I didn't say it would. If you spend a significant amount of time with your blood glucose above 7 I can pretty much guarantee you will get complications sooner or later though.

I think that 120-130g carbs per day is the sweet spot for the newly diagnosed to transition to a low carb lifestyle with a recent T2 diagnosis. It is low enough that they will get results and start feeling better pretty quickly, but not so low they will have any of the transition issues.

If you want to completely avoid complications, aim for 7. Will you always get there? Probably not. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be the target.

Doing Low-Carb but not losing weight

10lb in a couple of months sounds like a perfect rate of weight loss to me. Often the very rapid weight losses you will hear about will be people that had a huge amount of weight to lose. Diabetes is very hard on the liver, as is drinking alcohol. Would you consider cutting the red wine to a...

    Newbie terrified

First thing in the morning, before eating, 2 hours after eating are the three numbers of interest for type 2s. First thing in the morning will tell you how you are getting on, before and after meals will tell you how much that meal raised blood sugar. You want to see the +2hrs being less than 2...

    Diabetes Reduction

It is about reduction of carb intake rather than food intake. I can only speak from personal experience in that I reduced to 120g carbs a day for a month, 100 for a few weeks, 80 for a few weeks more then 60. In all I reduced for 3 months before going sub 50g a day. Mainly because I felt it...

    Symptoms of T2 diabetes

General malaise, neuropathy, leg blistering. My initial hba1c was 88 iirc, but that was a after I had diagnosed myself and had already switched to low carb a week or two before.

    Diabetes Reduction

Yeah it is calling it "oatmeal" that makes it an oxymoron, as oats simply cannot be keto. It would better be called a mixed nut porridge... but that doesn't sound so nice. I would say though that isn't something I'd be eating everyday. I treat nuts as a treat, not a staple. The almonds in it...

    Diabetes Reduction

If you aren't used to eating low carb at all, and have been running on carbs for decades yes there is a bit of a transition period where you can feel really rough if you jump straight into very low carb. It takes a little while for the metabolism and your digestion to adapt. Not long, a couple...

I need help understanding my readings / getting stuff off my chest

In mid march you said the reading were in the mid teens range. Be pleased. Be very pleased. Still a way to go, and you have got to find eating habits, rather than a diet, that work for you long term but basically halving your blood sugar in a couple of months is great. Take a victory lap. I...

I need help understanding my readings / getting stuff off my chest

I've got 20 years on you, you've got all the time in the world! Yes the diet information for type 2s is contradictory. Following the standard low fat eat well plate type diet that has been plugged for decades now type 2 was progressive and irreversible, not to mention that the majority of...

I need help understanding my readings / getting stuff off my chest

I was where you are a couple of years ago. Metformin can only do so much. It helps but only so much. On the other hand your diet can completely control this. And no, not the whole grain, low fat, rabbit food diet that they have been pushing for so long I forget, but the complete opposite. The...
