    HBa1C results: slow and steady?

Does anybody know- in general is it routine to test non-HDL cholesterol levels at the same time as glucose levels. The hospital haven’t done this so presumably it wasn’t requested by the surgery either. (I’m going to check with them). As Rachox has said, I can’t make an informed decision about...

    HBa1C results: slow and steady?

So, last week’s test shows I’ve dropped from 45 back in May to 42 now, so still just within the prediabetes reference range. Slow and steady wins the race I guess and I have lost nearly two stone since then . Bugs me that they didn’t test my cholesterol levels though , so I’ve still got this...

    Statin

That said, we are 5 mins on foot from a road well-known for being …how shall we say? ‘Problematic,’ Maybe that has bearing on my result?

    Statin

Cripes! And I thought we were affluent! So changed to the most well to do area of town and you’re right , it was lower! That said , I’d inputted my new, (nearly two stone lower weight) but until results of last week’s test come through, had to use my original levels.

    Statin

Yes, I’m wondering the same thing on tge linked thread. My cholesterol level was 6 four months ago; just had it retested this morning , so we’ll find out if levels have dropped soon. I’m prediabetic and was told that that number is counted as high , putting my Qrisk (of a cardiac event over the...

    Statin side-effects?

I’m interested to know, did you go not Ezetimibe straight away or did you try out statins first? I’d thought that the formers iquite a recent med and that statins are usually the first meds to be recommended.

    Statin side-effects?

Think the dose suggested by the pharmacist was very low, so hopefully (any) side effects would be minimal. Yes the whole nocebo thing and peoples’ suggestibility is a complication. I’ve tolerated beta blockers for over five years now and most of the side effects people report haven’t happened...

    Statin side-effects?

Yes had a bit of a read about it, Hopefully if there was an initial rise, it’ll have levelled out by now.

    Statin side-effects?

Ah…skew negatively, do you mean? I was told that losing weight generally indicates that your cholesterol level is dropping.

    Statin side-effects?

Thanks both. Some useful things to think about there. I’ve heard about Ezetimibe before. First things first, see what the blood test results show, then raise the subject if statins are indicated.

Should also say I’ve lost a load of weight over the summer , am fairly active and forever out and about. You hear sone horror stories about formerly fit folk being rendered immobile. Any truth in that either?

    Statin side-effects?

Prediabetic here and due to have another blood rest next week after the first four months ago flagged up raised blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels. I refused the offered statins as I was concerned about the possibility of them exacerbating leg cramps I’ve had on and off all my adult life...

Thanks, slow and steady, that’s me and so far so good weight wise. I’ve lost nearly a stone in two months.

That’s encouraging to hear. I’ve the double whammy of wonky blood sugars and high cholesterol, told surgery I’d pass on the statins at least until the next blood test when we’ll see what effect lifestyle/diet changes have had.
