Hi I’m julieclarke I’ve joined to find out more about T2 diabetes

I had this salad las night, but I also had a tummy upset afterwards.... don't think the two were related; it was most probably due to the blueberry muffin I ate with my mid-afternoon cup of tea.

Hi I’m julieclarke I’ve joined to find out more about T2 diabetes

"They" say food that is very hydrating, like cucumber, tomatoes, watermelon.... You could make a Greek salad with the above, plus a chopped red onion and feta cheese, dressed with oregano, olive oil and lemon juice! Then if you want a bit more carbs, serve alongside a couscous salad, or perhaps...

    Calories, Carbs and Losing Weight

Back in the 1980s and 1990s, losing weight by restricting your fat intake was very much a thing. I managed to lose a couple of stone that way, as did my mother before me. But sadly, it was derailed by commercial firms jumping on the bandwagon and offering "fat free" cakes, etc, which had a far...

Is there anything I could substitute for rhubarb, which I loathe? Also, I take it "c" means an American cup?

How much weight have YOU lost?

I've lost about 11 kg this past year; still another couple of kg to go before I am no longer overweight; this morning I was 75.7 kg (I'm 1m72), and I want to get down to 70 kg or below. No hurry, though. This is the third time in my life (I'm now 73) that I've lost significant weight - first...

Fasting Blood Sugar this morning + yesterday's food AND physical activity

Thursday 13 August FBG 5.08 No real exercise today; I did pop out to Lidl, but had to wait in for a plumber and it was too hot to go for a walk once he'd been. 07:30 Lady Grey tea, no milk or sugar c 09:00 Overnight oats made with oat milk, chia seeds, frozen blueberries, walnuts and the...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Mine was 3.7 this morning, which seems faintly improbable, but I had a bad digestive upset in the evening and night, which might have accounted for it?

Fasting Blood Sugar this morning + yesterday's food AND physical activity

Wednesday 12 August. FBG 5.7 1 hour's tai chi, plus walking there and back (10 minutes each way) and round Lidl Breakfast: Overnight oats made with apple juice (not convinced; my daughter does them like that, and although they were perfectly edible, I think I prefer oat milk. Still, good to...

Hi I’m julieclarke I’ve joined to find out more about T2 diabetes

It was. The recipe was on YouTube, here. I'm not 100% convinced by it; I think that I prefer to cook the pasta separately, and not put water in with the courgettes. But it was definitely edible! I think tomorrow we'll have shakshuka with some leftover jollof rice that I have in my freezer...

Fasting Blood Sugar this morning + yesterday's food AND physical activity

Ooh, a place for my food diary! Brilliant! I do have Type 2 diabetes, but it is under control with metformin and also oral semaglutide from the Ascend Plus trial. I sometimes measure my FBG, but my practice doesn't prescribe it for people who aren't on insulin, so I have to self-fund. But...

Nobody Prepared Me For The Mental Side Of A Type 2 Diagnosis

I take the line of "everything in moderation" and eat what I fancy, only in judicious quantities. Seems to work for me, as my last two HBa1Cs have been pre-diabetic and then normal! But we're all different, of course.... and all we can do is keep on!

Hi I’m julieclarke I’ve joined to find out more about T2 diabetes

Can anyone join in? Tonight's supper will be the second half of the pizza we had half of last night (Lidl's best, the one with semi-dried tomato and buffalo mozzarella), with the second half of the salad, ditto. I don't even like pizza very much but I stupidly put "Something nice for Sunday...

    Worried

I woke up the other morning to discover I'd completely forgotten to take my metformin the previous evening; it was still in my pill box! The occasional missed dose, or mistimed dose, as in your case, won't matter, but not a good idea to do it too often! And they do tell you not to take it if...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Hi - I haven't been posting my weight before, but am delighted to have found this thread! When I bought my scales, in September 2025, I weighed 83.89 kg, which gave me a BMI of 29.2. Last weekend I weighed 76 kg, with a BMI of 25.9. I would love to get down to under 70 kg, but there is no...

Nobody Prepared Me For The Mental Side Of A Type 2 Diagnosis

Oh, that is exactly what happened to me! I had my annual health check, whereupon one of the GPs at the practice rang up and said I had diabetes and must immediately start taking metformin for the rest of my life, and the prescription was waiting for me at the pharmacy! To cut a long story...
