Body clock, time zones, insulin response

Thanks for all the responses. I never did get to the bottom of when my body adjusted, but I think I am aligned with the clock now. I do have a distinctly different insulin response pre and post noon. In the morning DP raises my BG and I don't cope well with carbs. In the mid to late afternoon...

    Olive oil

Nothing that if you just take olive oil alone to test for blood glucose effects, be aware that it can act as a lubricant in the intestines. Which can be a good or slightly alarming thing.

Body clock, time zones, insulin response

I am currently in NZ which is roughly 12 hours or half a day ahead of the UK. In the UK my body has a sort of rhythm. Dawn Phenomenon building from about 6, insulin response kicking in around noon, BG dropping nicely in the afternoon. Overnight can be mixed. I'm just wondering how long my body...

T2 or NAFLD? ...or, a funny thing happened on the way to the surgery

The main point is that you have drastically changed the way you eat and what you eat, and this seems to have brought your BG under control. If you are successfully managing your BG by diet alone, then you don't need Metformin. That would be added once you could not maintain good enough control...

T2 or NAFLD? ...or, a funny thing happened on the way to the surgery

An interesting tale. You don't, however, explain what you were told about Metformin and why this was wrong. Nor do you explain why this was not suitable for you personally. Do you mind sharing?

    Type 2 Disappointing HbA1c

HbA1c is a measure over 3 months, but it is most impacted by the last 6 weeks. So abnormal BG in the few weeks before the test can have a disproportionate impact. You seem to be doing all the right things, so well done! Diabetes is a marathon not a sprint, so you have to be patient with...

Can Metformin HCL 1000mg cause vitamin B12 deficiency?

Normally yes, depending on the quantity! There are more carbohydrates in skim milk than full fat milk. Cream is even lower carbohydrate. Cheese is also good as some carbohydrate is fermented out during production.

His will bring a smile to you

I will say that my local GP surgery primarily deals with T2s. T1s are dealt with by the endocrine clinic at the local hospital. So it is quite possible a GP based diabetic nurse has no experience of insulin users. [I don't know what happens to T2s who progress over time to insulin. They may stay...

    Libre2 App

Just tested and it took 30 seconds to load. It has been slow (as far as I can remember) since the update for continuous monitoring. realme 6 Pro running Android 11. I'm not sure I want to reinstall and lose recent data, but encouraging to know it has worked for some. One question - which...

Fasting until 2pm. Do I still take my morning Metformin ?

I forgot to say "Don't Panic!". It takes a while to get your head round what works for you in controlling your diabetes. I certainly spent at least 6 months after diagnosis chasing around trying to work out what I should do. It takes a while before you really get your head round long term...

Fasting until 2pm. Do I still take my morning Metformin ?

We can only advise, but metformin is a background medication and doesn't have an instant effect if taken with a meal. It should be taken regularly as it has a long term effect. It is usually taken with meals to reduce the chance of stomach upsets, but if you can tolerate it there is no reason...

Exact minimum time between HbA1c tests - NHS

The general guidance is 3 months between tests. However, given the way our calendar works that is not an exact number of days. For example, November, December, January is 92 days. January/February/March is 90/91 days. 365/4 = 91.25. This seems very picky but I might have to argue over a couple...

UK equivalent of breakfast sausage ??

Question: if a high quality pork sausage is 95% pork, how is that different from pork mince (100% pork) with a bit of added seasoning? If I didn't want the sausage in the skin, I would just use seasoned pork mince (unless you can find commercial sausage meat which is 90%+ pork).

    Possible maculopathy..?!

I have always assumed that the diabetic eye screening was for retinopathy. My screening is clear, so far, thankfully. However I do have some macular degeneration, identified at my annual visit to the optician. This is the dry type, so not immediately catastrophic but is starting to impact my...

unwell and waiting for hba1c, metformin fears

I've been on Metformin for 10-15 years (some time off in my early years). I've been fortunate in that I didn't have any of the common side effects. Best to try it for yourself; you could well be one of the lucky ones.

    Cycling

I think you may be confused about meds. Most T2 meds do not carry a hypo risk. Eating on hills - are you on a high carbohydrate diet for energy? There are alternatives. I have no idea why avoiding medication would lead you to getting a CGM - perhaps you could explain? Do you have any...

NHS Diabetes Type 2 “Pathway to remission” Programme

Starting very low cab can give you "carb flu" as your body adjusts. It can take a few weeks for your body to fully switch over to running on fats. Slips off the wagon can start the adjustment period all over again. Best of luck!

    Cold feet

If it is a very long term thing then possibly some kind of heated foot warmer? Are you looking for something to keep your feet warm when you are out and about?

    Cold feet

At a guess I would say that you are not getting enough blood to your feet if you are not generating warmth when the feet are insulated, That is only a guess, though.

Has anyone sued for wrong diabetic diagnosis?

Can you show that you suffered major avoidable harm due to the diagnosis? In many/most cases the symptoms are treated and often the initial diagnosis is refined over time as the symptoms develop.
