Cardio Vascular Disease, the forgotten complication

Thanks for the info. I must admit I had never heard of a CAC scan but reading about it shows that DUK must be behind the times. Their 15 healthcare essentials do not mention anything like it, in fact the word heart or cardiologist are not mentioned at all. I'm off to see Dr next month - I'll...

Cardio Vascular Disease, the forgotten complication

I have been a Type 2 diabetic for nearly 9 years and shortly after diagnosis I discovered this website and am so grateful that I did. I saw the sense of reducing Carb intake despite some very strong arguments against it from HCPs. Low carb was not as well known then as it is now. So for the past...

Petition for NHS to push Low carbs for T2s

Where do you get your data from that Dr Taylor's low calorie diet is high in carbs? Grateful for the info please.

    Low carb diet research

Hi Everyone, Its a year or more since I've posted on this sight, I was diagnosed with Type 2 about 5 yrs ago and I'm for ever thankful that I did as it led me to going on a reduced carb diet and drinking good red wine. So at 69 I'm still on diet and exercise with HBa1c at around 40-42 with very...

DVLA considering revoking licences of insulin users

Hi everyone, I have been looking up some info on this and the first EU doc I can find is 'Diabetes and Driving in Europe'. A report of the Second European Working Group on Diabetes and Driving... This is based on work from 2004 to 2006. The only EU Directive I can find is Commission...

    Breakfast

How about a breakfast BLT. Toasted slice of burgen bread. Layer of lettuce, layer of tomatoes, some salad cream of mayo and topped off with 2 or 3 rashers of bacon. I have it once per week----great.

    Metformin......Query for a newbie

Hi All, From these posts it seems that GPs are not sticking to NICE guidlines of giving patients 3 months to see if diet and exercise can improve matters but are putting patients straight onto drugs. Give diet (lower carb and no sugar) and exercise a chance before you go onto drugs, I've been...

    Statins and co-enzyme Q10

Hi Folks, I have some muscle pain which is probably caused by the statins I take & I just put up with it. However, reading my wife's Prima magazine (as you do) there is a medical page with answers by a Dr Sarah Brewer. One letter asks if statins are safe and the good Dr comes up with the known...

    Polyclinics just for Diabetes

Hi all, At first I thought it could be beneficial but polyclinics could not be staffed with diabetes experts because of the need to have staff experienced in mental health/sexual health & drug & alcohol related problems. We are to get a polyclinic here in Scarborough (much against local wishes)...

    Guinea fowl on offer

Hi all, I love goose, duck & pheasant, anything you can shoot really. Had a pinkfoot goose over the weekend. Little thing had flown all the way from Iceland and then got shot near Morecambe by a friend. Wild goose has just NO fat, not like the farm bred ones. In Leeds a year or two ago Leeds...

    We need to bombard DUK

Hi Hanadr, Looking in the DUK booklet 'Eating well with diabetes' they do refer to a low carbohydrate diet in the Q/A area with the following comments. ' Low carbohydrate diets are very restrictive so you miss out on fruit and veg and starchy foods like bread and pasta, while filling up on fat...

    Need some advice please

Hi Brianb, I also suffered severe tiredness and absolute lethergy as you describe. I put it down to the blood pressure tablets so I now take them before going to bed. It was like turning a switch, a good nights sleep and plenty of energy during the day. Have heard from a physio that this is...

    Alcohol

Hi, If you like bitter try Tesco 2.1% bitter, it only contains 3 carbs per can. It tastes a bit 'thin' but then 4 cans equates to your average slice of toast so its no contest really. Its also remarkably cheap. Happy drinking.

    eat fewer chappattis

Hi Hanadr, Yes, good advice, I'm down to just one now after usually eating at least 3. I also usually have a vindaloo on the grounds that it's not likely to be in my system for too long! Roll on Sunday - it's curry night. Chris

    Healthcare Complaint - advice please!

Hello Natalie, The procedure for making a complaint is that the fist step is to complain to the Doctor's surgery, if you get no satisfaction from them, which is probable, you then complain to the PCT. The PCT employs the GPs who are independent practitioners working for the PCT. Both MUST have a...
