    Nightmare Before Christmas

I never said diabetics couldn't drink alcohol - I personally can't as it makes me ill.

    Nightmare Before Christmas

It was merely a vent - not a question to be answered nor a dig at anyone. Sorry I mistakenly thought we could vent our feelings in this forums so apologies if I've offended anyone in any way. I didn't even expect replies as it was just me getting something off my chest but some people appear...

    Nightmare Before Christmas

Sorry all but I need to vent my anger ! While the news is full of figures informing us in the rise of the number of people developing type 2 diabetes and the number of obese people being offered gastric band surgery on the NHS, what about those people who have developed diabetes through no...

    Frustrated with Metformin

I'm keeping a diary for the next week. Had porridge today and can tolerate that ok - which is just as well as it kept me going until I grabbed my (very small livlife bread with ham) sandwich. I don't get a lunch break as I only work part time so a sandwich is the most convenient thing I can...

    Frustrated with Metformin

I have now stopped eating regular bread completely and switched to Livlife after recommendations from other users of this forum. This bread comes in very small loaves and very small slices however the carb content is under 4g per slice. I only have two slices of this at lunchtime and...

    Frustrated with Metformin

I know cornflakes not the best choice for breakfast but I don't have any sugar or anything with them. The livlife bread are tiny slices and under 4g of carbs per slice - I hate tuna and a sandwich is most convenient for lunch at work. Given that I didn't even have an apple today I'm well...

    Frustrated with Metformin

I am currently on a Metformin "break". I had been having horrendous problems with bloating, stomach cramps and wind - despite taking the modified release type. I asked to do this after various other attempts to cure my stomach problems failed. As if by magic all my problems disappeared -...

    Benefits

Same applies here. I was made redundant and out of work for 15 months but I was only allowed to claim JSA for 6 months even though I had worked full time since leaving school. Once that stopped I had to live off redundancy as my partner works full time, I have multiple chronic illnesses but...

    Stopping Metformin

After visit to diabetic clinic last week I stopped taking Metformin to see if it was the cause of my horrendous wind problem. Dr said to keep an eye on levels as they may begin to rise. Within days wind problem appeared to have gone and so far levels ok. However I have had aching in my hips...

    Travel insurance

Suretravel (I think) cover loads of pre existing medical conditions so it would be worth checking if they would cover you. I'm probably going to take out a policy with them myself soon.

    Soft drinks sugar free

I find 7up Sugar Free is a nice change from coke although not many pubs or restaurants have it. I think it's time drinks manufacturers got creative and made something especially for diabetics as there is a huge gap on the market. I know you can get alcohol free beer but not sure about sugar...

    The Great British Bake Off

Not your regular diabetic.....please help if possible

I would add more fats, cheese in particular will add much needed calories. In addition it may be worth seeing if you are suitable for a pump which would control your insulin dose for you. Good luck

    Addison's Disease - Addisonian Crisis

Can I just ask about timings of your crisises? I've had two and they were both early morning - i just wondered if this was a characteristic of a crisis (as my sister also died early morning) or if it was purely a coincidence

    Quick Hypo Snack

I hate honey so I'll go with the glucose tablets I think. I'll buy a pack to keep in bedside cabinet. Thanks for all your replies
