Random question - testing sweetened drinks with blood glucose monitor!

Hi, this is a bit of a random question but I'd really appreciate if anyone could explain something to me as I can't find the answer on Google! I was unsure if the 'diet' coke I was given at a restaurant was actually diet, so I used my blood monitor to check it and it came out 'HI'. I got...

    teen refusing to do insulin

Bethaniiee I have been in your position, now I am 29 and suffering life changing complications. I know it's scary knowing that if you start taking your insulin you will put on a bit of weight, but this is NOTHING compared to how devastated you'll feel when you realise that you've damaged your...

    Retinopathy and terrified

Thanks for all your replies. I think my consultant actually wants to use the newer drug (Eylea?), for me, I couldn't remember the name but knew it was like Lucentis. I didn't realise that you needed to have the injections so often though, and am I right in thinking indefinitely?

    Retinopathy and terrified

Thanks Fayefaye, I know exactly how you feel; I have had some retinopathy in the past but it went away. I have been clear since 2009 with only some very minor background changes, but this has now really thrown me. It's not having the treatment that scares me, but the thought that what if it...

    Retinopathy and terrified

I have today been told that I have proliferative retinopathy and have to go back for laser treatment next Friday. I'll then have to have lucentis injections on top of that. This seems to have developed over the last few months after recently tightening up on my control. I haven't had any...

Hi I am fairly new to this but thought I'd come here to see if anyone could give me any advice / optimism. I'm 29 and have had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 14. I've struggled for years to be able to control it, and developed some mild neuropathy in my feet in my early 20s, which until recently...

    Help in dealing with neuropathy

I agree! I have had mild neuropathy for several years, never caused me any problems but after recently tightening up control (over the last 3 months), have found that it's become a lot worse :-( It's not really painful just really uncomfortable; it's like constant partial numbness in my left...

Type 1 for 7 years and today I've just admitted it!!

Hi I don't understand why everyone always says it's so hard to get a pump. I was referred to a different hospital to get one and at my first appointment the consultant, having only just met me basically told me not to worry, if I wanted a pump I could have one, and not to worry about funding...

    Autonomic Neuropathy

Hi Shecat, Your life is NOT over - just because something has happened to your friend doesn't mean it will happen to you - although I know what it's like to be going out of your mind with worry, I have been through a lot, believe me. Remember that your friend's body is different to yours, we...
