    Misdiagnosis?

Yep, it was a fasting test with results of 7 and 7.1 but I seem to have been caught early and have benefited from lifestyle changes. I'm still not sure whether the gum disease triggered the high blood sugar levels. Maybe I should try another fasting test and see what the reading is now?

    Misdiagnosis?

Hi Cuglia, There were two tests - 7.0 and 7.1. Is there some definitive test that can be taken to say yes or no? In terms of well controlled, it's one of the best things that could have happened to me. Rigorous execise with personal trainer, weights, cardio ... whereas before I was just sitting...

    Misdiagnosis?

Hello all, I've just received my latest A1C result - the first I've had in a year (got into trouble with the nurse for that). It's 5.2. My first was 5.1, second 5.2 and third 5.0, so all very consistent. I'm not on any medication. At the time of diagnosis I was just above the borderline (7.1...

    Latest A1C

I'm 45 so 50 or 60 years seems quite OK to me. My main aims are to see my kids (age 12 and 9) grow up and to out-live my dog (18 month Labradoodle, life expectancy 12-15 years).

    Latest A1C

Hello all, Just received my latest A1C results since diagnosis - it's 5 (first results were 5.1, second 5.2). This has been achieved on exercise and diet alone. The nurse said that if I successfully kept up with my regime I can avoid medication for another 10-15 years. At this point I argued...

    Immunizations and blood sugar levels

Hello all, I'm planning a trip to India at the end of the year and will require all the necessary jabs. Does any one know whether these inocculations affect blood sugar levels?

Denial - Is a very dangerous river in Egypt

Hi, Iolanthe, The first stage in dealing with any problem is to recognise you have one. As Kim says in the post above "knowledge is power". On diagnosis a year ago I have managed to turn my life around. I've found many of the posts on this forum, and the books I've read, to be far more...

    Just diagnosed Type II

You need to find out what your A1c result is. You have a right to know. "Excellent" for a diabetic may be not the same as for a non-diabetic. My GP told me that anything below 6.5 is "good", but ideally you need to be aiming for below 6, with or without medication. I can see how you may be in...

    2nd A1c results

Hana, Thanks for the reply. I'm going on holiday for two weeks soon, so maybe I'll give myself a bit of a break diet-wise. When I was first diagnosed at the end of May last year I received the news the afternoon before I was due to fly out which cast a damper on the whole thing. How things have...

    2nd A1c results

Hello all, I received the second A1c results from my GP today via the telephone. This is six months since my first A1c and a year since original diagnosis. First A1c = 5%; second A1c = 5.2%, both on exercise and diet alone. Although I'm pleased to have achieved an A1c within the "non-diabetic...

Cheers, Ken, I was starting to get paronoid. It was quite a long post I sent and maybe I can't be be bothered to send it again. I'll press "Submit" for this now, but will it reach you, does anyone care??? Still really peed off. What's the point? For some reason this post appeared 4 times so I...

I've just spent 30 minutes compiling a posting only to have it denied access. Is it just me? I am really p..... off. ( remember on this forum always save before posting)."

Anthony Worrall Thompsons high sugar cookbook

He's apparently found a niche in the market, as AWT states: " Diabetes is a huge problem in this country with around two million sufferers and probably another million who don't know they've got it; a lot of that is down to obesity. I was diagnosed with a pre-diabetic state that made me panic a...

    Procastination

Jeez, Trink, you're beginning to reveal your age now. Do you date back to the swinging sixties/psyche seventies, or maybe to the Beat era (Jack Kerouac et al.? Or maybe the eighties - which were a good time but I can't remember exactly why ...

    blood pressure?

My last blood pressure check at the Gp's was 140/82 so the doc decided to up the meds to 5mg ramipril. Apparently diabetics should have a reading of 130/80. I don't know if these are side effects but I've started to feel a bit "fuzzy headed" and dehydrated in the mornings after taking these...

    What's for Dinner Tonight?

Hi Pedro, Is Dreamfields as low carb as it states? Only 5g digestable carbs? I presume it must be, otherwise many people on this forum and elsewhere would be vilifying it.

    Soya milk

Hello all, I've recently started drinking Alpro Original soya milk, as I've read it can be beneficial in reducing cholesterol. My cholesterol levels have dropped from 6.4 to 5.8 to 5.2 on last three blood tests, with a low/moderate carb diet, exercise together with taking plant stanols and...
