    Injecting through shirt, needle length

I use 4mm needles and regularly inject through a single layer of clothing (jeans, t-shirts etc not thick wool jumpers) - never had an injection fail because it wasn't deep enough. @kitedoc - you don't want to be injecting into muscle tissue, that's why needles are short.

I'm fine with injecting, but not with testing??

Ask your doctor for a Freestyle Libra - less need for pin prick tests. Test on another part of your anatomy - it does not have to be your finger tips no matter what anyone tells you.

    Contour Next One

Ask to change your prescription to strips for the Contour Next (as opposed to the Next ONE) - it takes the same strips and is not bluetooth.

    Type 1 car insurance quotes.

@urbanracer - Hastings Direct was the reason I asked the question. They have been slowly upping the price over the last couple of years but this year's renewal was £150 more than last year's! So I've been on the comparison sites and as others have said did not experience any issues after...

    Type 1 car insurance quotes.

This is what worries me. If you have to phone the insurance company to complete an online quote it will be more expensive than if the quote was completed 100% online - you will also not receive any cashback from the likes of Quidco. The word discrimination comes to mind.

    Type 1 car insurance quotes.

When getting quotes online from the likes of GoCompare and MoneySupermarket do you get provided with a full list of quotes or do many of the insurance companies require you to call them by phone to complete the quote as you have stated you are a type 1 diabetic?

    Worst review with DSN

Are you counting carbs? You don't need a DAFNE course to start counting. The amount of carbs in a food is listed on the back of the packet or can easily be found by googling. Try and stick to below 100g of carbs per day (less if you can) and initially try 1 unit of novorapid per 10g of carbs...

Does drinking black coffee affect your BG?

I drink gallons of the stuff and it has zero impact on my BG levels.

    My latest diabetic check-up.

Frank, you need to stop making excuses and start reducing your card intake asap. There is no reason why your wife, daughter or granddaughter have to co-operate - it would be nice if they participated in a low carb diet with you but certainly not essential. Heavy colds are a pain in the ass but...

It's been a long struggle but I think I have reversed T2 after 12 years

Congratulations on getting your blood sugars down to normal levels, this will certainly impede the progress of your diabetes and the related damage it can do. Unfortunately and sorry to be a party pooper, this is in no way a reversal of the condition, you have that for life and will need to...

Such a thing as low carb bread or snack bars?

I've tried many different breads which are supposedly 'healthy' for diabetics and nearly all either taste like cardboard or are ridiculously expensive. There's only one that I can recommend wholeheartedly and that is Burgen. Burgen has 25g of carbs per 100g or 11g per slice. It lasts for ages...

EU - In or Out + Poll.

You're so wrong - do you think the EU's largest trading partners, US, China & Russia allow "free rights of movement of work and people" for European citizens.

    Pen malfunction?

If this a disposable pen then throw it away and start a new one, If it's a pen that uses 3ml cartridges (100 units/ml = 300 units) then start a new cartridge and make a note of how many units you inject per day - after a few days you should be able to tell if the cartridge is emptying at the...

    DARIO - blood glucose monitor

I received a Xmas present from Dario this morning - my Dario meter - thanks Dario :) 10 minutes after the post I got a phone call from the surgery asking me if I wanted to confirm a change to my repeat prescription of test strips as they had received a letter from Dario - I'll be picking up a...

    Cold feet...

You really should see a podiatrist. At my diabetic clinic a foot examination by a podiatrist is available to me each time I visit - they check for lack of sensation and blood circulation around various parts of the foot. Ask your doctor to refer you.

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

To evaluate the accuracy of the sensor Abbott used 75 subjects wearing 2 sensors each over a period of 14 days. - @ 12:50 I think we are their major test bed. I also think that the the reason that it is now not possible to become a new user of the Libre system is not because of lack of...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

From the pics (esp Darren's & Andy's) it looks like irritant (ICD) or allergic (ACD) contact dermatitis. If it's ICD you may or may not (hopefully) get a similar reaction from another sensor. ACD would be more serious as being allergic to the adhesive backing would mean that you should not...

    Type 1: Prescription fine

It's bureaucratic ******** I'll bet that this exemption certificate nonsense costs the NHS more in running than it saves in fraudulent misuse. They should just leave it up to the doctor to sign the prescription stating that due to your medical condition you are entitled to free...

    Type 1: Prescription fine

I live in Wales - land of song and free prescriptions :) I was wondering if I was in travelling in England (as I do now and again) and had to get an emergency prescription for fresh insulin - would I have to pay for it?
