    Damaged by statin

Tell you GP to read a large scale and long term study called Hunt2. Carried out in Norway over 10 years on ten thousand people it concluded that diabetics, women and everyone who does not have active heart disease should not take statins. It also concluded that the target levels of cholesterol...

    Damaged by statin

I had T2 for a number of years before the statin 'episode'. At the moment I have extensive muscle damage as a result of the statin and probably more damage being accrued because of high BG since being put on the (totally unnecessary) steroid. Feeling a bit annoyed about it all. Having to...

Despite having side effects, painful cramp in legs, with a first statin. I was persuaded by my GP to try a second statin last year because she said my T2 put me a increased risk of stroke. After a few months I noticed feeling weak in upper arm and thigh muscles and this increased. I stopped...

Steroid treatment effect on Type 2

Thank you Rowan. Times like this really show up how fragmented the medical profession is don't they? The rheumatologist prescribing the steroids doesn't fully grasp their effect on diabetes and tells me to think about it. At least we have this forum and other sources of reliable information.

Steroid treatment effect on Type 2

There is no alternative if I want the debilitating muscle weakness of polymyositis to be sorted out and to avoid permanent muscle damage. So this is going to have to be damage limitation so far as the bs levels are concerned

Steroid treatment effect on Type 2

Thank you for this. My current bs levels are usually pretty good. The rheumatologist and GP offered only very general advice, but I do plan to reduce carb intake more than usual and test bs more frequently t least for the first few weeks. I have not started the steroid yet, still have to get...

Steroid treatment effect on Type 2

I have just discovered that I probably have polymyositis, unrelated to my Type2, and that I shall soon have to start big doses of Steroids. I know this is likely to raise blood glucose levels but do not know how much, I believe I shall be on the steroids for months. Has anyone else has big...

    Artovastatin

I have been taking simvastatin for a few months now. You are right Masonbason63 that they should always be taken at night. However, I am going to stop taking it and step up (literally) efforts to reduce cholesterol with diet and exercise. Recently I have been feeling dizzy and developed achy...
