Ludicrous. I have tried my GP, Diabetic Nurse, certain pharmacies but I will not admit defeat and pay for this! No way!

I have heard some people put them in empty bleach bottles with the child proof lids ... don't know if its legal mind ... I just put my lances in the open fire .. not recommended .. but as the ash stays in the ash pit in my garden its not a problem for me.

Wow!
The pharmacy wouldn't take mine but my GP did and exchanged it for a much bigger container that will last for a while. I guess it's a form of postcode lottery as to how you can get rid of the used ones?

Yes but a problem for someone else ..... lol I was told yesterday at the diabetic clinic, the haematology department would take them but when I went I was told they were not under Imperial Trust so couldn't take them and they are expensive to incinerate. They agreed though to take some. I have in the past just dumped a small plastic container of them in a public bin. Lots of them in central London!

So does anyone know of a chemist/place in London where I can legally dispose of sharps?

I'd just stick the sharps bin in the nearest council bin and not worry about it and let the council do that. Not the right attitude I know but why should you have to pay for something which should be free, you pay your council tax end of. I'm sick of hearing about all the extra charges and hassle over waste collection in this country and poxy councils running their own banana republic around waste management collection.

Wrap them carefully and send them to Theresa May, 10 Downing Street, London, SW1A 2AA

It's pretty shoddy service when your GP or Pharmacy will not take them.

Have you tried the emergency dept of the local hospital to see if they will take them.

Not yet. Still other places first. I'm hoping someone living in London might post! As for Theresa May did you know she's recently been diagnosed as having diabetes?

That's why I wrote what I did as it was reported here in Australia last year, I bet she does not have any problems disposing of stuff.

@Tipetoo I know you are joking, but just in case anyone thinks of doing that they might face prosecution. But you are right, it is the Government's fault that local councils are increasingly charging for services. They have cut funding to councils by 40% over the last few years with more cuts to come.

I thought May had been Type 1 for a long time.

Don't put a return address though.
Unless you fancy a few years as a terrorist after sending contaminated sharps to the PM.

Realistically, one day, mine will go in my garden burner, then the ash, including the sharps, will be buried in the garden somewhere, and slowly rust away.

I haven't had to dispose of any yet as I'm still using the Fastclix lancet I started with a year ago! I am on the 6th needle now, and will change the cassette when I get home. The needles are contained in a small cassette, so I will probably just wrap them in something, cover with tape, and put them in a litter bin. I might ask my GP and DN when I next see them if they can dispose of them.

Think I'm lucky just take mine to local boots when I collect prescription. Do you have a friendly dentist to ask? They get through loads of sharps, one near me has a big medical waste bin out back........

Clinical waste guidelines from DEFRA say council is allowed to charge.
In London you may find a private company do it cheaper.
Otherwise perhaps somewhere like a drug treatment centre may take them?

I was going on the info that the SBS supplied when they did a short bio on her, when she took over as PM after the Brexit fall out when the other PM pulled the pin.

The Fastclix drums can be disposed of in household waste. It says so in the instructions.

Thanks Guys. I have asked two Boots in central London. Is the branch you went to in London by any chance?
