When people who know nothing about the LCHF diet tell me I'm killing myself being on it. I was killing myself not being on it!
My BS were a high 10.1 this morningat 8am, probably because I didn't have much sleep last night, awake until after 4.30 not the best of ideas to watch Silent Witness before going to bed and scared myself! I was going to a zumba class at 9.45 so didn't have much for breakfast, only 1/2 avocado at 9am 15 min walk to the sports centre and 45 mins zumba light (slightly slower than normal), 15 min walk home. Tested BS when I got home at 11am and it was 9.0
Tested at 1pm before lunch and got a 8.7
The question is...... is it still high because I hadn't eaten much?
Just had lunch (lchf) and will test again around 3pm. Got the full leaded zumba tonight, so surely that will make a difference???

Hi there berylc, unfortunately this is quite normal thing to happen. At the moment I have a nasty bronchial infection and I am on antibiotics for 7 days. For the past 2 weeks my blood sugars have been all over the place. Although on the high side. Prior to the chest infection I was going to the gym 2-3 times a week and walking 3-4 miles twice a day My morning BM was 7-8 now it is 12-15.5.
There are many variables that cause the BM to go up or down. My friend whom I go to the gym with is tall and skinny and he bombs around the gym like a bull in a china shop. With in 10 minutes he is sweating profusely. I on the other hand am a seasoned gym pro. I start off warming up first then increase my cardio workout. I never rush nor run. I burn off more calories than my friend. Doing different exercises like muscle training can do the same thing as cardio workouts. In fact you use more muscles when you are going up and down hills at a speed of 3.5 mph.
People think they will burn off more sugar and calories when they work out like crazy. All they do is feel stiff the next day. If you want to reduce your blood sugars by physical exercise all you need to do is work the body until the heart rate increases to a third more than your normal resting heart rate. Also if you want to sit in a chair and lose calories and burn off blood sugar it is simple. It is called dynamic tension. You have extender tendons and reflexor tendon that are attached to muscles and all you need to do is flex one muscle and with the opposite extend it. This generates heat in the muscles of the set of muscles being used, so burns off the sugar that makes energy and not going to be made into fat if it is not used by the body. Sit with your hands clenched and push with one hand to try and break free of the other hand. At the same time use the opposing force of the other hand to keep the hands from breaking away. Do this for 20 seconds rest for 20 seconds then do this again say for 5 sets of 20 seconds. You can do this for all sets of muscle. It is similar to pelvic floor muscle exercises. Like this 2 little arrows both trying to pull apart. PULL >---------< PUSH
What you describe is very normal and it takes time and patience, so carry on and do what you are doing eventually your body will get the message and your bodies metabolism with start to change. Best regards and good luck Oldman1952
