13/14 low-carb german diabetics come off insulin

It was low carb + metformin + liraglutide.
Limitations of our study include the absence of a control group, patients either treated conventionally with intensified insulin treatment or with carbohydrate-restricted diet or metformin or liraglutide alone.

Thank you very much Etty. Very ineresting. I suppose we all take from these thigs what we will. I was interested to see that the authors just took as read that both oral medications and insulin cause weight gain in T2s.

This is omething which is often denied here - at least when HCPs talk to patients. Maybe the Germans are more hones about these things.

Interesting that an oral version of Victoza is being trialled - this would be more user friendly than the injected version.

A demerit for Novo Nordisk for involving the contraversial Paula Deen in the advertising.

It would be interesting to see a study of low carb + Metformin without the Victoza/liraglutide.

Also interesting that the measure for poor control was an HbA1c above 7.5%.

Cheers
