1st full week in lchf

Hi all!

I have just completed my first full week on lchf and although my sugars have been fantastic (type 1) I'm a little disheartened as I haven't lost any weight

Has anyone else experienced the same? I don't want to put weight on and I'm a little worried I will?!!

Did it take you one week to gain all of the weight you want to lose? No
Consequently, it's going to take a lot longer than a week to lose that weight.

Some people lose 10 pounds in the first week while other people, like you, don't lose a single pound. In either situation, it means almost nothing.

In the first week people begin a diet, most people begin to retain less water, have less food in their digestive system, and with a low carb diet they will likely begin to deplete their glycogen stores. When you combine all of those together, it could easily yield more than 10 pounds lost. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean they've lost even an ounce of fat.

In contrast, if you've just started working out, have increased your intake of red meat, and increased your sodium intake those may cause you to retain more water as your creatine levels increase (not to be confused with creatinine). You may have lost a whole pound of fat, but if you're retaining 1 pound of water, the scale isn't going to move.


Bottom line- the scale is ONE measurement, but it's not the ONLY measurement. "Losing weight" is useless if you're not losing fat which is why it's important to consider other measurements (body fat, how your clothes fit, etc).

You may just have to look at your calorie intake as well and/or increase activity, give it a chance though and good luck. :)
 
I wouldn't fret if it's only been a week, I didn't lose much until 3 of 4 weeks into LCHF but the weight loss really kicked in when I started exercising which was walking, since Dec I've lost over 20 kilos it's been a steady loss, just stick to the LCHF and remember to watch the calories and if your able do some exercise too, but the LCHF did work for me.

What you have said has made me feel a lot better! I did actually start the gym last week too so I did 2 gym session, 1 fitness class and was very active on Wednesday...all of which I wasn't doing previously.

I don't have an awful lot to lose, I want to lose a stone but if I can lose 1.5 stone I will be ecstatic!

I think I am verging on around 1400 - 1600 calories per day so I'm not eating massive amounts. Hopefully I will see a loss this week.

Pretty impressed with my sugars though, only 1 hypo last week and readings all below 10!! I'm normally swinging all over the place and have around 5 - 6 hypo's per week :)
