2/3 course meals

Hey all just wondering when your going to be eating more than one course when you give your self your insulin? And if it differs when you have starter / main or main / dessert?

When out I always inject at the start of each course, rather than a bit before like at home. I personally only have a starter and main as I've never been much of a pudding/desert person. I inject once my starter has come just for my starter, and I can see portion size. Then wait for my main and inject before that. Never know what delays may be like so I don't try guessing an amount before I can see it on the table. if I get too full and have injected for something I havn't eaten a few sips of a sugary drink about 1~ 1.5 hours later or a small snack later if I want will stop the inevitable hypo.

Like Brett, I normally bolus course by course. Quite often if I have a starter I don't need bolus for that because I usually choose starters with very few carbs. If there were a few, then I'll add them to the main course bolus.

It's not always easy though. A meal at one of the local village fetes can have five or six courses and take several hours With the added complications of lots of wine, and quite vigorous traditional dances, It becomes a matter of complete guesswork of how much to give and when!
 
I only ever do one Bolus injection for a meal but try to ensure I understand the menu, have some idea of the level of service and agree with others whether we are having a dessert course (almost always the high carb bit!). I normally inject at the table just before the first course is expected to be served and rely on the bread roll to cover me for a while if there is a delay and you can always ask for one if needed.
 
I tend to not bother for the starter as it's usually low(ish) in carbs, so only inject for the main and only do so when it arrives at the table if eating out to work out the carbs on the plate, plus kitchen delays are possible and wouldn't want to go hypo before my food arrived.

I don't generally bother with desserts at home but may have a cheese and crackers or a fruit salad if available in a pub/restaurant, when I do I just give another insulin shot.

Similar to the above! I don't tend to inject for starter, but if I do need to I will do it as my main course arrives, meaning just the one jab.

If I have space for dessert (pretty rare!) I'll inject again once the plate has arrived in front of me
 
I tend to wait until the end of the meal - it means a greater spike but only one injection.
