Hey there,

last week my Endo informed me about my newest results, she told me my Hb1ac was 6.1%. Then yesterday I picked up the complete lab results and there were two Hb1ac one was the 6.1% and one was 5.4%. Quite a difference there isn't it? I contacted the Endo and asked how this could be and she explained this was 2 different labs. The last Hb1ac they took in September was 5.9%. I already was worried that my Hb1ac has been rising, though to low carb. Now I figured that the 5.9% was made by the lab that came to the 5.4% result. Well the most important thing is that the Hb1ac is under 6.5% and therefore no need to be controlled with medication.
Did you experience this? Is it usual that the Hb1ac can differ this much?

Did she say why there were tests from 2 labs?

No she didn't, only that they are both significantly under the 6.5% threshold. And that differences are possible, especially with 2 labs done. All other parameters where either by one lab or the other. No other double lab results. The limits set by the lab are (4.4-5.7). The 6.1% had me worried.....because it is a rise, the 5.4% gives me relieve because it is improvement....Well.....I guess I have to be patient, but this shows that it can't be all about the Hb1ac if there is so much difference possible.

Did you have 2 lots of blood taken, at different times, or only one blood draw?

This seems really odd to me, I'd be scratching my head wondering why?

Hi,

your profile says you're in Germany, welcome, and "Undlosgehtes" is German for "and let's go" (hope that's right).

I think I'm right in saying that with our dear old NHS we don't get the opportunity to have our bloods tested at more than the NHS lab. In fact, in my case, only one phial of blood is ever taken for each test (HbA1c, cholesterol etc).

I'm having my regular NHS blood tests on 28th February and I'm also having a c-pep and insulin resistance test done privately the day before. I might ask for an HbA1c to be done at the same time and compare the two. Interesting.

Are you sure they are both HbA1c tests - as it may be one was a fasting plasma testand the other HbA1c.

Just had the result of my private HbA1c and at 52 it is higher than expected. I've got 12 weeks worth of Libre results to double check. NHS test will not be available until March 14th.
